FSD Zambia, FSD Africa and the SEC partner to strengthen Zambia’s capital markets

On Thursday 16th May 2019, MTN Mobile Money and FSD Zambia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing financial inclusion for women and youth in Zambia. This MoU formalizes the strategic collaboration between the two organizations stemming from FSD Zambia’s Women and Youth Financial Inclusion project financed by SIDA, and other work on gender and digital financial services financed by UKAid, Comic Relief/Jersey Overseas Aid, and RUFEP.

FSD Zambia has a keen interest in addressing the barriers that specific groups of people, such as women and youth, face in accessing financial services that serve their needs. Equally, MTN Mobile Money has committed its focus and expertise to foster the growth of financial inclusion, particularly targeted towards the vulnerable and marginalised populations in Zambia.

Because of this, the MoU is very important as it aims to address barriers to financial services for women and young people. Specifically, the MoU, will address collaboration towards the achievement of Digitisation of School Fees Payments, Testing and Piloting of Digitisation of Youth Savings, Digitisation of Remittances and Incentives for the Digitised Financial Literacy for Youth – (Football Yatu); and other specific and jointly-agreed interventions for the effective increasing of understandable, affordable, sustainable financial services for the unserved and underserved persons in Zambia.
