CLR Podcast 247 - CTRLS

It is Monday the 18th of November 2013 and we have CTRLS for the first time on the CLR Podcast. The DJ/producer from Copenhagen recently released the "Shifting States EP" on Token Records, which also includes two Sleeparchive remixes, and has a remix of PVS "Arsenal" on M Recordings as well as a remix of Clouds on Turbo coming up soon. As a core artist of the excellent Token imprint we can expect further releases from him on the label in the near future. Apart from his work as CTRLS he forms part of the duo Northern Structures, who have been receiving massive attention and support by some of the biggest players in the scene for their "Self Similarity EP" and their very diverse and always unique live act. Northern Structures combines a variety of musical influences from House over Dubtechno to Drum´n´Bass and focuses on organic and industrial inspired electronic music.

Italian DJ/producer from Roma, Giorgio Gigli is an artist with a very clear vision of the future. Giorgio Gigli’s music is a highly intense and extremely personal form of communication, born from a lifetime spent collecting and exploring electronic dance music. As a producer he’s proven himself on a selected network of labels such as Electric Deluxe, label of Dutch hero Speedy J, M_Rec LTD or Prologue. As a DJ Giorgio’s sets vary from ultra deep ambient-influenced sounds through to intense rhythmic techno, and like his productions are characterised by a strongly hypnotic vibes and atmospheres. OVERVIEW:
After a series of prized splits and collaborations, M_REC LTD's own Max_M returns with 'Dissertation', his latest fully-fleshed solo effort.

'The Kidnapper Bell' was his last EP for M_REC LTD. The avid vinyl lover and collector has since put his "maximalist" values to work sharing wax with the likes of Fabrizio Lapiana of Attic Music, as well as with newcomers Wrong Assessment. Not one to rush things, 'Dissertation' then comes at a peak time for Max_M and M_REC LTD, representing the culmination of a ceaseless dedication to the type of stolid, hypnotic brand of techno intrinsic to both chief and label.

"Exceeding Brightness" governs the A-side with blue blips set to a progressive chugging pace, enveloped in a trademark background of fuzzy mechanical whirrs. "Architectural Lie" then opens up the B-side with a loop of warm chords that roll into a tumult of diffused hats and jangled melodies. "Scape Sequences" concludes in a subaqueous fashion; viscous, heady and stupefying.

Endlec is from Greece, born and lived his early years in a city called Thessaloniki. He is in constant search of his true inner voice, either that comes from making music, listening and playing something that inspires him or by being occupied with his love of images through photography and cinema. Techno is his master, his is just a servant, a man devoted to the rhythm. He has chosen a path towards perfection of his craft no matter what he faces. What constantly motivates him is his respect for the music no matter the genre, something that got to him from his early memories thanks to his father, the experience of music listening and the desire to understand the fundamentals...

In 2014 Endlec decided to release his personal vision of techno out there. With three Ep's already under his belt on labels such as Authentic Pew, Panel Trax, ARTS D//G/T/L and more to come from him at the future, one thing is certain...This guy is just getting started!

The Forgotten XLV: Endlec

Somehow we are already at number ten in our podcast series. This one is yet another special offering and it comes from Ø [Phase], aka Ashley Burchett. Burchett is a UK techno legend who has been doing his do for the past fifteen years. He has released most of his work on the Token label and it includes immersive full lengths such as Frames of Reference as well as tens of hugely consistent and always excellent EPs that go far beyond simple floor fodder. Atmosphere and tension, hypnotism and efficient sonic economy all characterise his singular output. 

Clocking in at just under 75 minutes, this one is for the heads: it starts off in supple, subliminal techno territory with distant drones and rubbery synths working you into a hypnotic state and then gradually unfolds through many different textures. Always rooted to a seductive and repetitive kick, this is a masterclass in control and restraint, in tension and balance, and it will keep you locked for the thrilling duration as a result.
