Man...so many of us fell in love with Dilla without even knowing that we were falling in love with HIM. I been reading "Dilla Time" by Dan Chanas ...it's such a gorgeous biography and ode to his legacy and genius. I fell in love with his music but after reading the book- I'm in AWE. I didn't realize how influential he was because I was born after he innovated created Dilla Time...those of us who grew up in the 90s don't have a reference to a Hip Hop without Dilla's foundations and contributions. The last real highlight of the lecture was when he played one of the last beats J Dilla ever produced. He explains how sick Dilla was at the time and that he couldn't really express himself through words. So instead, he would express himself through the beats he made. His last beat samples Funkadelic's "America Eats its Young" record and really symbolizes how he was feeling towards the end of his life.
