TM8 Q: What’s the first thing you think about when you wake up?

A: "It depends on the day, if I’m really into a certain track I’m making or playing a game I’m obsessed with, it would be in my dreams and on my mind as soon as I wake up. Provided I don’t have to go to work (-_-), it would be the first thing I do before anything else in the day (and maybe all day hehe.)"

London-based DJ and producer Astral Bandit has put together a smooth and silky psytrance and techno-flavoured mix for us. Having heard psytrance for the first time as a teenager, they soon discovered faster techno and trance subgenres and today, they blend all these influences into one signature sound. Following releases on Dublin-based label Harmless Recordings, London’s @area127, Colombian imprint @underzoneco, and mixes for radio stations Netil and Aaja, they’re making a name for themselves across the scene. In this mix, Astral Bandit taps into tripped-out melodies, freaky vocal snippets, wigged-out basslines and several surprises, showcasing their psychedelic leanings all the way through.

DANCING IN THE DARK 

NYE is the greatest party of the year, they say. Guaranteed full dancefloors, artists from close and far and parties that go on for days. It's the day of the year when every person in this godforsaken world, goes out, with almost no exceptions. It's the biggest club night of the year, we look forward to it all year and we LOVE it. 

But not this year. Not with this virus. Not with these restrictions. 

We leave a year behind that most people just want to forget, a devastating year for club culture, community, and music culture in general. What we love most have been taken away from us. Artists are struggling to make ends meet and to keep motivation, companies are going bankrupt and many people are leaving the music industry and year's worth of hard work are being washed down the drain. It's truly horrifying to bear witness to, especially when we are also constantly fighting to keep our head above water. 

Sometimes it can feel like we are losing our communities because almost all communities are built on gathering and that, we cannot do. Friends get lost in the corona dark, old bonds slowly break and it can feel like the loneliest time in this already lonely world. To all of you who are feeling lonely, you are not alone! Remember to reach out and remember to invite people you normally wouldn't invite, else you won't see them! 

Although 2021 probably can't get any worse than 2020, things are still extremely uncertain, most of the west will probably be vaccinated, but due to the market forces and bone-crushing inequality. We are still years away from an actual 'cure'. The possibility to meet again and dance together still seems far away, and we HATE that. How can we survive more of this? More loneliness, more separation, more dancing in the dark. Well, there is nothing we can do about it but keep our heads high and try to keep our connections. Reach out, do dinners, do sports, play computer games with your friends, turn off the lights at home and dance by yourself. Just know, that Ved Siden Af and other communities are waiting for you on the other side. 
We will never leave you alone.
