Premiere: The Populists - Mudslide [Lumiere Noire]

Sinchi Music returns with an eleventh volume of its influential Altered States series featuring artists from all over the world.

All sales from this not-for-profit release will be donated to the Sinchi Foundation to support Indigenous forest guardians in the Brazilian Amazon.

Sinchi Music has always excelled at curating talent from across the world in its eclectic and forward-thinking Altered States series. In its previous ten volumes, it has platformed exciting new artists from the musical spectrum. Number eleven carries on that fine tradition.

It opens with Itzik Kadi, who is inspired by the timeless sounds of the legendary Motown. He specialises in infusing classics with an electronic twist and opens up with the brilliant 'Jasmino'. It's a house cut with eerie melodies and a grinding bassline that makes for an intriguing atmosphere.

Next up is Bonïpso, co-founder of the Agoya collective and electronic duo Amonavis, aka Pierre Bonizec and John Hassell. Between them on 'Hide & Seek', they merge industrial, dark disco and house into an other-worldly sound.

Milan-based Irene Radice reworks electronic tradition through a modern perspective, and her tracks have received support from the likes of Sasha and BBC Radio 1. Her L' Alma' is a tripped-out disco chugger with airy melodies and a bubbling bassline that is full of colour.

Tierra de Ovnis is a musical project from Jesus Cuevas Leon which blends electronic indie sounds with the energy and culture of this homeland Mexico. On 'Stargate', that takes the form of a mind-melting mix of warped vocals and deep, punchy drums, snappy hits and otherworld disco vibes that will get the dance-floor moving.

Keep Me In The Light is a dynamic Scottish artist now based in Bangkok with a passion for the retro sounds of the 80s and 90s, Italo, disco and indie house. His 'Equestrian Space Powder' is a rich world of electro-tinged rhythms and moody chords that are lit up with a rueful lead synth which carries you into the unknown.

Last but not least, Lithuanian-born Klimas brings nostalgia to his work and mixes up Italo, new wave, and new beat, minimal techno, electro and has released on the likes of Whypeopledance. On '1 2 Cha', he layers up a fantastically flabby bassline with dubbed-out drums, cowbells, and zippy synth leads for a party-starting disco on a distant planet.

“The darker, the better”
Active on various musical scenes those last four decades (as a record-shop owner, label manager, tour promoter, singer in several bands, etc….), TheTallMan started djing as a dilettante (and still is) in the early 90’s, delivering fierce sets blending New Beat, EBM and Electro-Industrial.
After a long hiatus went back behind the desks in the mid-2010’s offering his own interpretation of Indie Dance, mixbags of Dark Disco and Darksynth layered with cinematic (he’s a sucker for horror movies’ soundtracks) and psychedelic overtones, and a punkish approach to the mix: flaws are tolerated, abrupt transitions are more than welcome and perfection is nothing but an F-word.

Last autumn I went to South Africa to perform at Earthdance festival and to produce music at the Red Bull Studios in Cape Town. It turned out to be one of the most inspiring tours of my life and together with Youngsta, PH Fat, Sibot, Greg Reve, and Jam Jarr I channeled that inspiration into what I feel is some of my freshest new music. It was the spring in South Africa so Youngsta and I created a summer tune called 'Orange Sky', which is all about sunrises, sunsets, good friends and good times. 

Good times are best when shared so we are giving this tune away, straight up. No label, no stress... just a gift from us to world.
