Dead Bites - Episode 1 - Infliction

To mark the thirtieth anniversary of the passing of the Video Recordings Act in the UK, this episode we look back on the 'video nasty' debacle, focussing our attentions on one of the most infamous titles caught up in the hysteria; Ruggero Deodato's Cannibal Holocaust.

Elsewhere in the podcast, Dee and Paul battle it out in 'Iain's Video Nasty Quiz', with the hope of proving once and for all who knows the most about low-budget, banned exploitation horror films from the '70s and '80s. And if that in itself ain't an enviable victory prize, then I frigging well have no idea what is.

As the panel picks over the remaining chunks of flesh left clinging to a severed hand found deep in the Colombian jungle, we quench our thirst with Greene King IPA, Peroni Doppio Malto, Cusqueña, Kinnegar's Devil's Backbone and Brooklyn Lager. Yum.

Episode 4 - Cannibal Holocaust

It's back to science fiction for episode five, as the team whips out its Drac phrase book in an attempt to understand the loopiness behind Wolfgang Petersen's oft-maligned and misunderstood tale of conflict resolution in outer space, Enemy Mine.

Is it a galactic war story? Does it effectively challenge superficial, culturally-defined idiosyncrasies? Is Dennis Quaid's acting any good? And what in shitting Christ does 'Enemy Mine' mean, anyway? Join the panel as we look to resolve some of the film's most pertinent and enduring questions. Plus! Dee puts Iain and Paul's genre knowledge to the test with a quiz on '80s sci-fi's most beloved aliens.

This week's beer list sees Paul stick with a selection from his beloved Kinnegar Brewery in County Donegal, but also includes Samuel Smith's cherry beer, Belgium's Gulden Draak, Greene King's Double-Hop Monster IPA, Germany's DAB, Turkey's Efes and Sierra Nevada Torpedo. Phew! Enough booze to reconcile even the most polarised conflicts in the world, and beyond...

Episode 5 -  Enemy Mine

The podcast shenanigans for episode six see the team return to Dresden at the height of the Second World War, then back to the present, then back to the war, and finally to the fourth dimensional planet of Tralfamador. Confused? You ought to be. This episode explores Kurt Vonnegut’s highly significant and epic anti-war novel Slaughterhouse Five, along with its subsequent 1972 film adaptation. So it goes.
Paul tests Iain and Dee’s literary knowledge with a quiz on famous cinematic adaptations of the written word, and there’s plenty of war-related booze to be had courtesy of Asahi, Spitfire, Erdinger, Staropramen, Blue Moon and Weihenstephaner. Which is kind of grim when you think about it.
Holocaust aside, click on the podcast for a rip-roaring time and witness some hefty war crimes in action. You know who didn’t like podcasts? Hitler. Food for thought. So it goes.

This episode sees the panel dig out the old asbestos dungarees and hide charred corpses conspicuously about the place, as we take on Joseph Ellison’s pyromanic video nasty Don’t Go In The House.
Sick, twisted filth or underrated dissection of the human psyche for the Jeffrey Dahmer generation? It’s doubtful whether the panel reaches any conclusions, but Christ did we have fun trying…
In a bid to extinguish our growing thirst for alcoholic beverages, this episode we quaff Sierra Nevada’s Ruthless Rye IPA, Kernel’s Export India Porter, Trouble Brewing’s Deception Ale, Rogue American Amber Ale, some Smoked Porter from Beavertown, Lucifer Belgian Ale and, of course, Paul’s beloved Limeburner from Donegal’s Kinnegar brewery.
So crack open a few beers, hide the matches, drink your tea and, above all, don’t go in the house…

Halloween is coming and the WSD team are getting hammered. This episode we battle the ancient ghosts of Samhain via John Carpenter's seminal 1978 slasher rinse out Halloween.

“If that's the trick, then what are the treats?” I hear you ask. Well, I'll tell you. This week the panel gets through Budweiser, Jupiler, Trouble Brewing's Dark Arts Porter and Pumpkin Brew, Raging Bitch Belgian Style IPA, Brew Dog's Dead Pony Ale, Samuel Adams Octoberfest and Sierra Nevada's Kellerweis. Phew!

And if you think that's a shitload of booze, you're probably right; black porters and goblets on Halloween night...

Episode 8 - WSD HALLOWEEN SPECIAL I - Halloween

Forgive us, listeners, for we have sinned. It has been over four weeks since our last podcast.
But never fear, for we are back with the proverbial bang, crossing ourselves as we bear witness to Ken Russell’s gloriously blasphemous masterpiece The Devils.
Dousing the flames as we burn at the stake are Adnam’s Mosaic Pale Ale, Kinnegar’s Devils Backbone, Bishops Finger, Lucifer, Steenbrugge and Profanity Stout. 
May God have mercy on our souls.

*WSD Official Disclaimer* The following episode was recorded in early December, amid good faith from all panellists concerned that it would be uploaded and ready to go in a week's time, in order to make room to cover Bob Clark's Black Christmas before the festive season began. Christmas being what it is, we switched off for a month or so and never got round to uploading the bloody thing. Needless to say, 2015 is here and we intend to get our arses in gear from this point on. For better or worse, here is our review of Hammer's Curse Of Frankenstein, in all its gory glory...

Perhaps we'd better start from the beginning...

Given the long and arduous process of planning, recording and professionally patching together each episode of Won't Stay Dead, perhaps it was only a matter of time before we covered one of the greatest examples of biological mix-and-match terror via Hammer Horror's The Curse Of Frankenstein.

Bubbling away in a foaming test tube this week are Galway Hooker, Samuel Adams and Barcelona's Estrella Damm, along with Iain's booze-free Dr Pepper and Orange Fanta. Some Twiglets make a tenuous appearance too. Guess that's what happens when you record on a Sunday... Bloody religion.
