Following three EPs for Musique Large and two albums for Melting Pot Music and rx:tx, Fulgeance returns to his label and home with “Cubes”, an album that is intense but also more personal, bred on funk, electronica and the combination of bass and beats that remains the Frenchman’s most memorable signature.
The album follows the EP triology of Chico, Low Club and Glamoure, each of which was received with interest and positive feedback from not only the press but also the public.
Different thanks to its analogue textures, tempo changes and a real desire to surprise, “Cubes” is, in the words of its maker, “the coming together of a variety of influences at at time where too many things sound the same”.
The nostalgia of “Neverending” and the back to basics of “Stupido” open proceedings, followed by the flurry of “He Knows” and “Velcro” designed to take the listener into the universe of the man once nicknamed “The Little Prince of the Beat” with broken rhythms that still manage to make bodies move. You may find your head nod on “Sheeeeiit” and “Down”, enough to make your neck hurt even. You may find yourself excited by “Chocolat Orange” before enjoying the lyrical volleys of “Whisper” and the flow of DistantStarr on “The Fan”. “Nightwalker” will take you into a hot and smoky night before “Comptine” brings things to an end.
This isn’t just an album of “beat music”. It’s purposefully open, as Fulgeance has always wanted, to touch a larger audience, fans of electronic music but also fans of dance music.

Bienvenue to the new musical world of Fulgeance: a concept album combining vintage sounds and quality drinks. A moment of simple music. Mainly made from analog synthetizers, this intimate work would come from the crossing of a wurlitzer with a wet reverb and a perfect "old fashion", a warm and woody drum machine in total harmony with the finesse of a tasty natural gamay or a roaring bass on an aged calvados: This is  Musique et Boisson. 

Delighting in this confined situation (yes, he loved it!), the French MPC maestro, now away from pads, preferring analogic synths and old drum machines, took his time to compose some sincere ”ballads"...or rather his own sound illustration, sometimes easy-listening of the 70's, with a touch of funk "à la française". You may hear some influences like Money Mark, Clutchy Hopkins, Vladimir Cosma, Alan Hawkshaw or R.McCarthy. 

Starting from scratch for this new album was the key. Without samples, guided by a refined rhythmic patter, simple melodies and his beloved fellas: the Oberheim Matrix6, the Minilogue, the faithful Jazz Bass, the Juno60, the Moog Prodigy of a friend, the old Korg Poly 61, the Wurlitzer of a genius, the prodigious Prophet... and especially the legendary "Rythm Ace Tone" drum machine used by Sly Stone or Timmy Thomas, sporting almost the entirety of this suave and round record. 

An album with a unique sound, where the quality of the sound sources counts more than anything else. It is another Fulgeance, or maybe the guenine one, the one who takes his time, who always wanted it and who for him is certainly one of the most precious things.  

In the presence of his long time friend & talented musician Baron Retif (on clavinet, keyboards, drums & percussions on "Addiction" & "Mésquine") this sound & the mood of this album is one of a kind, the first episode of a new series from the French musician and producer.

Musique et Boisson will be released on Cassette & Digital on Musique Large, accompanied by a bottle of natural wine 50% Gamay, 50% Grolleau from Vincent Wallard or a local Normandy beer "Les Champs qui moussent" in limited edition*.

Fulgeance hails from France apparently and it would be true to say he's got a bit of that fonky Oizo type flavour about his beats, but mixed and mashed here with some sick beat science in simialr styles to fellow label mates Heralds of Change or the crew's studio engineer Mike Slott on 'The revenge of the nerds', but flips the styles on the b-side with some nicotine stained keys and burnished blue jazz downbeats. In late 2011, the ever-active beatsmith Fulgeance released the Step-Thru album on rx:tx Rec. as a limited-edition CD with hypnotic cover graphics. It was his "back to the roots" project - no fancy stuff, just simple and effective production that focuses on the key elements that make people move - the track's rhythmic swing, its bass melodies and haunting hooks. 
Now, besides releasing heavy loads of new material on his own (last LP "Cubes on Musique Large") and as one half of Souleance, Fulgeance finally sits back, relaxes and tosses four tracks from Step-Thru to four different remixers. 
To start with the three hit French combo, first up is VECT, who is consistently producing some incredible out of the box hiphop & classy futuristic r'n'b beats. His take resulted in a head nodding piece, less of a remix than a total remake of the album opening track "Whut It Iz". 
On the B side of the 7" there's Moresounds, the Parisien dub and beats champion, who is lately on fire with his self-titled EP and who has previously released fierce tunes on Om Unit's Cosmic Bridge label. He delivers a deep and jukeish remake of the "Wet" track. 
The digital only version of the release also features 2 additional tracks. 
The third remix from the French connection comes from the b-boy duo Funky Bijou as they add some melodic funk to the rightly titled "Raw" track. 
To top it o here's Oknai, one of the most gifted, focused and consistent 
young talents from Slovenia whom we know for his excellent "Ain't a 
Dream" EP. He delivers a tight, subby, low down version of the track 
"Square".

A 22 track LP originally created as an A/V live performance accompanying Ange Leccia’s video “La Mer'', with the help of Collectif Manoeuvre, Interstice Festival & FRAC Normandie. This live performance will continue into 2023, in contemporary art centres, art schools, galleries & venues.

You can call this sound “new-age” as opposed to ambient, Fulgeance explains: 
“I prefer harmonies, melodies or sounds that emote sensations rather than noises and textures… The Sea is a piece of art in itself, so for me it must reflect the soul, the past, the future and also have hope … My dedication to it couldn’t be just textures, it had to be more harmonic"

This album is made of long recording takes, living by themselves droning with analog synths… moments of observation, searching for wellness and calm, floating on your back in a quiet sea.

Robert Charlebois’ musical world is an incredible source of treasures, in several genres, throughout the course of a career that has reached the half-century mark. Any good vinyl hunter on the planet knows the value and importance of Charlebois. His name is circulating among record collectors, and his music jumps from generation to generation, country to country, in the most natural way. Let us state the obvious: the raw energy found in his music has not been altered in the slightest by the passage of time.

Music lovers under 40 have discovered Charlebois by going through their parents’ vinyl collections. Used LPs, scratched and dusty, holding true gems that begged to come out and play. Back then, Charlebois was bringing a new sound to Quebec, an evolution, but he also introduced a look, an influential style.

Until now, Robert Charlebois’ oeuvre had never been the subject of a rereading/remixing project. This year, his 50th anniversary in show business, provided a good opportunity to invite a new generation of musicians to dig deeper into the grooves Charlebois has laid down. Though the techniques and instruments used to write and treat music have changed, the goal remains the same: to surprise, to develop new ideas, to push back the limits of form and content, to broaden the sound spectrum.

The idea of a remix album came from Montreal-based musician/producer/artistic director/DJ Poirier. The project eventually got set in motion, and Poirier took its helm as artistic director and executive producer. He also applied his magic to a handful of tracks. The concept was to sample Charlebois’ songs directly, without access to their individual tracks – to draw from the raw material and go straight to the heart of the matter. The results: fat dirty funk, round beats, and psychedelic flights seen under a new light. The sunnier side of Charlebois’ music is also represented along the way through nods to Latin, reggae, and calypso music.
