Next up on the Phonica mix series we head out West, State side all the way to Washington DC to hook up with James Bangura. 
James or by his real name Timothy has dropped some extremely interesting heat as of late on labels like !K7, Incienso and World Building to name a few. With a musical style that mashes inspirations from stems of US house and UK broken up beats and techno leaning sounds it goes without saying that Bangura's sound is one of the most unique out there in the current club circuit. Off the back of a recent trip around the UK and Europe we hooked up with James and got him to lay a mix down for us that is very much in itself inspired by his trip to the UK. Featuring a mesh of 2-step, broken beat, jazz influences and moulded together with a refreshing house and bass sound we are very excited to welcome to Phonica mix 108; James Bangura.
We had a chat with Bangura about his trip, his mix and about what he's got going on.

One for the submersible crew, GGHQ Mix no.73 breezing and bubbling through. 

Our Berlin buddy and Celtic soul brother Jank Inc. supplying us with 70+ minutes of lefthand electrics of all shades and persuasions. One of the founders of Berlin club night and record label 'Pace Yourself', Jack has been out there transmitting for a wee while now. We've played at his heady club night at Paloma in the past, where a disgusted German woman stormed out of the club midway through the majestic Red Zone remix of Will Downing's 'The world is a ghetto' stating that it was 'the most offensive thing' she'd ever heard, followed by a near sunday morning war with the denizens of Görlitzer Park. All in all - we knew were kindred with the Pace Yourself mob that weekend. Only right then, that Jack should come aboard the good ship GG for a mix. 

Jack's mix is deep, subtle, atmospheric and introspective. The perfect music to drift to, all lovingly put together on a recent visit to his mother's house in Scotland. If you've tuned in to any of his Refuge Worldwide shows, or attended any of his underground events, then you know already. We're happy to present this one, get lost in it. You'll like it.

It is a great joy to present the next Deep Mind Music mix, a deeply healing and very special mix from a friend of mine, Bossman Wines. 

Listening to this mix feels like being suspended in a hologram of fractal light, as tones and colours wash over you. It’s an intimate, vulnerable and moving listen, inspiring my continued faith in ambient music as an incredible tool for cathartic emotional processing. I listened to it twice in a row on a flight last week when my body was feeling pretty fragile,  I certainly felt better after. The perfect soundtrack for zooming out of existence for a while.

Bossman Wines says he made the mix of “long exhale tracks, built of tones and textures which are gentle and vital, long rung chimes, flutes and glowing pads which move slowly and soothe.” This creates an enveloping and spacious energy which allows thoughts to trail off into ether, and the mind to relax. The mix does feel like a continuous gentle exhalation too, of feelings, of tensions, of problems, as each is released and let go by the end of the mix, one’s soul feels lighter. 

I’ll leave you to listen with a poem Bossman Wines wrote to accompany the mix:

Bigger notion and process;
true dream is experience, decoded through our flat filter.
Under the slow rush looking up,
gaze we into distant past.
Stitched together from zero to one –
the real that blinks with one fragment to next,
explained by sequence
but remembered backwards.
We are all our breaths at once,
zero to one, then back to nothing.
Step we out further, it looks calm from far away.
