Full Spectrum Mix Challenge

We're back with another Mix Challenge from another member of the Full Spectrum Family! We feel so lucky to have so many supportive friends who have backed us since the beginning and Chris (BLVN) is definitely one of them!

BLVN runs our favourite Bristol bar To The Moon which plays host to multiple dnb/jungle nights including their very own Liquid Lunar. Many of us met through these Sunday sessions and their bar has cemented itself in the heart of our community. We will be back there on the 16th March for our Open Decks night so come down then and find out why this place is so special!

BLVN is a long standing DJ whose love of the soulful side of dnb is reflected beautifully in this mix. Anyone who has seen him play knows his knowledge for and love of the music and we are so pleased to be putting this one out today!

Psychlo is a 25 year old producer/DJ living in Cornwall UK, producing/djing mostly drum and bass of all kinds whilst simultaneously delving into other genres such as tekno, speed garage, bassline and hardcore. Sometimes I still get up in my head about meeting these guys. In this weeks case,  I went to the label boss of one of the hottest labels in DNB to ask if he could get her to do a mix for us because in my mind that felt more comfortable...lol. It turns out I should have just sent her a message. She's the nicest! Representing Overview Music, North Carolina, and American underground dance music culture, please welcome VELLE. There are a few producers in North America writing music at her level. What's funny, is most American DNB heads probably have no idea she's American.  Artists like her are the tip of the spear in underground sonics. Not only here in the states but globally. We're really excited to share her mix with ya'll. Tracklist below.

The next instalment of the Dispatch Blueprints series sees the welcome return of Survival to the Dispatch Recordings camp. As an artist with a musical career spanning 20 years, he will be well known to fans of Dispatch with his music forming a huge part of the back catalogue. 

These two tracks go seriously deep, channelling the mid-90s with lush soundscapes and crisp jungle drums. The bright opening synths of "No One" build throughout the track, contrasting with tough, precision drum work, filtered edits and nostalgic vocal samples, leading us on an epic voyage through some serious old-school energy. "The Flavour" takes things deeper for a blissed-out reflective journey that rolls out just right.

PopeJohn storms onto Wicked Jungle Records with Vibrations/The Gift, a two-track assault that pushes the boundaries of darkstep and tech-driven drum & bass.

Vibrations channels the unrelenting force of darkside Drum & Bass, delivering jittery, two-step drum patterns that rattle the senses. Ominous, drawn-out basslines grind beneath apocalyptic atmospheres, haunting choruses loom over the chaos, setting the tone for a dystopian ride.

On the flip, The Gift twists the narrative into a collision of precision breakbeats and controlled madness. Chopped and spliced breakbeats carve through growling bass distortions, glitch-infused mutations, and ethereal pads that evoke both tension and transcendence. It's a sonic paradox-beautiful yet menacing, calculated yet chaotic.

With Vibrations/The Gift, PopeJohn cements his place among the architects of the underground. This is drum & bass in its rawest, most unfiltered form-no compromise, no escape.

Originally hailing from Japan, Akira Knightley is a London-based Drum and Bass DJ specialising in the deeper, more leftfield sides of the genre. Fast-forwarding through his squat raving as a teen in London and via an immersive stint living in Bristol as a student, he is now a resident of the esteemed Community-led Subtle Radio, as well as for SDC, a grassroots forest rave collective based in West London.

With a knack for unearthing ‘hidden gem' type tunes and a love for the more niche corners of the genre (such as the Autonomic Movement), his signature style combines ethereal melodies, engaging drumwork and gritty low-end bass weight to devastating effect. This mix is a Lo-fi, textured affair; weaving a journey through minimal dnb, jungle and halftime with both bite and elegance towards a haunting conclusion.
