Funk Cabal's latest release is a bold fusion of hard-hitting electro-funk, cinematic textures, and art-rock sensibilities. Channelling the deep grooves of Kerri Chandler, the atmospheric tension of Massive Attack, and the poetic urgency of Gil Scott-Heron, their sound is a masterclass in contrast - where gritty analogue beats collide with ethereal synth backed landscapes. Smoky, introspective vocals intertwine with pulsing club energy in a mesmerising collection of ideas. Echoes of sly romanticism and widescreen synth work add depth to their palette, creating something absolutely timeless.

This 5 tracker covers a lot of ground, humanist themes intertwine throughout with snapshots from life. The easy appeal of the record is plain to see, each track pulls in a different direction and the vocal work keeps its momentum as you listen. Within the tight EP format, it is unafraid to flip the script, transitioning from rolling Italo arpeggios to laid back broken breaks at the drop of a hat, all this gives the record a freshness that is rare.

Desde las profundidades del soul urbano y la electrónica introspectiva nos llega “Open Up”, la nueva entrega del dúo Funk Cabal, que se presenta en exclusiva en Vicious Magazine antes de su salida oficial el próximo 18 de abril de 2025 a través del sello Tremors.

“Open Up” combina la crudeza del electro-funk con una atmósfera emocional densa, donde la narrativa vocal se entrelaza con grooves rítmicos y una producción cargada de sensibilidad cinemática. Ecos de Kerri Chandler, la oscuridad de Massive Attack, el lirismo de Gil Scott-Heron y arreglos que remiten al dramatismo synth de Vangelis dibujan un corte tan elegante como visceral.

La voz, casi susurrada, flota entre líneas de bajo saturadas, percusiones minimalistas y pads que elevan la intensidad con una naturalidad magnética. Es una pieza que no teme al contraste: humana, sincera, y profundamente club.

El track forma parte del EP Open Up, un conjunto de cinco cortes donde la lírica y la experimentación sonora cohabitan con audacia y honestidad. Una carta de presentación que sitúa a Funk Cabal como uno de los proyectos más singulares del panorama actual.
