R.L. Boyce has been a musician since his days as a child growing up in Como, Mississippi, home to the great Hill Country bluesman Mississippi Fred McDowell. He started out as a drummer, playing for the Rising Star Fife and Drum band with blues legend Otha Turner, all the while waiting to come out in front to sing and play guitar. His songs are often delivered in an improvisational fashion, with references to his collaborators, his environs and whatever else happens to be on his mind at that particular moment.
 
Hill Country music is loose and free, so much so that it puts both the performer and the listener in a warm, almost meditative state while still groovy enough to demand a good ass shake. Through improvisation, it is designed to heighten your consciousness. You don’t play this sort of music so much as you submit to it. 
 
Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi All-stars says, “RL Boyce is a first-hand protégé of Fred McDowell, Ranie Burnette and, RL Burnside but with an added rhythmic edge he honed from his time playing drums with Jesse Mae Hemphill. RL's endless boogie keeps the She Wolf style alive.”
 
To properly capture the sound of RL and his friends, you set up the mics, get the hell out of the way and let the hypnotic boogie take over.

They say the greatest players are so tight they are loose. This is that.

did several versions (thought I'd found a vinyl home for one of them at one point but it wasn't to be) it reminds me of Monday nights at the Brickhouse in Manchester at Most Excellent, remember going out on a Monday and getting spannered ??

DJ Nature follows up 2018’s ‘Ultimate Delusion’ EP with another set of pure heaters for Futureboogie.  

The Bristol born DJ and producer, also known to many as Nature Boy, comes with an exemplary track record, but that’s to be expected from one of the scene’s early pioneers.  Releases for Golf Channel Recordings, Jazzy Sport and Ruff Disco Records are considered true classics, and rightly so!

Breezy MPC house jams of the highest quality, ‘Flutter’ manages to fuse David Lynch style pads and earthy vocals with a marching rhythm, whilst ‘A Moment’ gets cosmically charged with a spiralling modular lick over a chugging guitar hook and spacey chords.

NB’s Mix of Siliconada goes straight for the jugular, with looping disco rhythms and off kilter jazz licks, whilst the Original Version lays heavy and disorientating synth work down for a killer techno injection.

As always, DJ Nature delivers a unique and distinctive sound that is often imitated but never bettered!
