The Knocks' "Modern Hearts" really sounded like a really great remix of an 80's New Wave track, even though it is an original song. I figured I'd work backwards and try to make my song sound like what they sampled to make "Modern Hearts". I hope that makes sense without knocking The Knocks. Nonetheless hope you like the track!

After 2+ years of trying get everything together, I'm happy to announce that my single WWMMD is finally here! I'm super proud of this original track. It's the culmination of all the things I've learned from creating all those remixes and original music.

This track features the amazing vocals of Zacari Pacaldo who sang the vocals in Kendrick Lamar's "LOVE.". Justin Ward is an outstanding saxaphone player and really played an excellent solo to complete this aural package. This is simply my best work yet and I can't wait for you to have a listen.

I first started writing this one while watching the scene in Risky Business with Tangerine Dream’s track “Love on a Real Train”, trying to capture that mood. As the track evolved it took on more of a Michael McDonald vibe which lead to title “What Would Michael McDonald Do?” (which is kinda a mantra I live my life by). The original demo resembled “I Keep Forgetting” with some vocoder (maybe we’ll release it at some point). We were blessed to have Zacari come in and absolutely destroy the vocals which lead to him performing on “Pretty Woman II”.

What Would Michael McDonald Do

We first met Holland serendipitously (is that a word?) through mutual friends, and connected on a musical level right away. We were so eager to collaborate, we ended up recording her vocals for "Lovestruck" using a make-shift garage rig in the LA suburb Eagle Rock, and rushing the session back up to SF to finish. We knew we were on to something, but none of us knew people would enjoy the track as much as they did.

Fast-forward about a year, and we've had time to connect and refine our collaboration. The first new track born out of this bond is "Real Love", a soaring, heartfelt, disco ballad. Holland's vocals float over this track like a cloud, and we're in love with how it turned out.

This is my attempt at making a Michael McDonald / Doobie Brothers track. It's a catchy bouncy yacht rock song with unusually deep lyrics about personal relationships. The song is about that crappy feeling you get after you get dumped. It features a bouncy rhythm, a super catchy piano line, some funky synth riffs, and a lot of attitude. Tom Aspaul is in it and together I think we made something weird but approachable.
