Here's another deep and dark cut from the first session of the year, recorded on 2nd January 2021, and using some wonderful piano soundscapes kindly provided by @anmoku. We also added some great industrial/glitchy drum loops from @fl-souto, while Gillie flew in some horrible guitars Si had recorded earlier to complete the unpleasantness.

"Everybody's got a different idea o' why they call the place Mer Rouge--you know, "Red Sea" in French--when they ain't even any ocean around. Hell, we 200 miles from the Gulf!

"The one that's right, I think, is the story 'bout folks livin' up on Red Hill, lookin' down on the flat Delta, all covered in red clover in the Spring...that sounds like a Red Sea, don't it?" (Uncle Hassell, taped interview, May, 1989)

For this piece, Hassell used tape loops ("some of 'em was so worn out, you couldn't tell what it was") and synthesizers to evoke the sight of Prairie Mer Rouge in the early days of settlement, as a warm breeze created waves on a sea of red clover.

This is an old track I made a couple of years ago. I don't normally repost older music I made because my skills have progressed in the meantime, but this one still stands out to me.  It's a song about the pagan deity, the goddess. A trinity of three individuals, including the Babh and the Morrigan, each of which represent different faces of femininity. Celtic societies were matriachal in nature.

I've developed more complex layering of sounds in my later work and this track doesn't really do that much, but it's a nice vibe. It's got a combination of peace and beauty versus the suggestion of awesome omniscient power. The power of raw creation as well as destruction. That power is not expressed in a masculine way but it is there none the less. It must be remembered that female celtic leaders in roman britain such as Boddica terrified the roman rulers. She sacked London or Londinium as it was then, and burnt it to the ground in response to her daughter being raped by the romans to humiliate her. They paid for that with their blood until she was finally defeated, at great cost to the roman occupiers. I wanted to achieve that off key, leftfield tone that is present in celtic mythology.

It’s impossible to put my music in one genre. It can be influenced by trip hop, breakbeat, instrumental and abstrack hip hop, heavy rock, techno, minimal, sound art, contemporary, glitch, you name it!

I like most of these artists, and maybe you can hear the inspiration from them: by far the best are Daft Punk and Massive Attack, then come others like the 90's Ninja Tune artists such as Amon Tobin, DJ Vadim, The Herbaliser and Kid Koala, many of which I have seen live at the legendary Ilosaari Rock festivals in its day. I also like Le Peuple de l’herbe (I appreciate French hip hop the most, which often has spices from several genres anyway). Also, now comes to mind The Prodigy, Portishead, DJ Krush, DJ Shadow, Gorillaz, Röyksopp, Boards of Canada, Moby, Mono, Thievery Corporation, Future Sound of London, and so on, you know how the list might go on with 90s electronic music well-known and rarer names. Without naming individual artists anymore, I listen to music from all genres like acid jazz, funk, lo-fi, and other easy-to-listen music as background music for other arts and science making and sometimes even punk or hard metal in the mood for them.

I've been doing music at the beginning of the 2000s with a Tracker, namely MadTracker -Software (I am fine with the program name). Something like two years I have done again actively music with Ableton Live 10 and I upgraded it lately to 11. Some of my bizarre song are based on experimentations back in 20 years ago and some are completely new compositions. They, too, are experimental, maybe because I've done the research career of about 20 years. I want to explore everything, including music, of course. I want to do music that have never done before!

My second passion is everything related to nature. I maintain a micro-farm during the summer, keep sheep and chickens there, for example, and return it to its original traditional biohabitat. So far in the winter I live in the city dreaming of spring, summer and autumn at the countryside.

I am open to collaborations just like in science: then one can create something completely new and exciting. Do not hesitate to contact!
