Welcome one and all to the amazing debut from Beat-Breaker on Breakbeat Paradise Recordings. To use the words, &ldquo;hard-working&rdquo;, &ldquo;diligent&rdquo; or &ldquo;perfectionist&rdquo; doesn&rsquo;t do the man credit, as you can hear from this 5-track piece of quality. It&rsquo;s been a year in the making, and it has definitely paid off.He kicks off the EP with a track featuring the absolutely awesome MARIA, who has found time in her busy schedule with Dutty Moonshine Big Band, lay some wicked tones on top of the opening banger. The track starts with a pure funked up guitar, laced with haunting, yet jazzy violins, and complimented with the wicked voice of MARIA. Though don&rsquo;t let the smooth intro sway you, as this number drops into some heavy beats and bass, alongside big rhymes to ensure it takes you on a journey of some funky ass Glitch Bass!!Keeping on the Glitch tip, the second track does exactly what it says on the tin. &ldquo;Drop the Bass&rdquo; does nothing but that. Quality Glitch-Hop, with clear beats, big sounds, and some 80&rsquo;s synths, that really gets those hands in the air.Moving onto S.T.P. (aka. Sticky Toffee Pudding), Beat-Breaker delivers even more bass heaviness. If you like your bleeps and analog synth sounds, then this track is the one for you. Taking a cheeky sample from the queen of cooking, he shapes this banger with bass just as squelchy as her S.T.P.If you like your funky breaks with that touch bass and sweet vocals, you&rsquo;re in the right place. For this whopper, Beat-Breaker enlists the wicked styles of Kurnel MC, who definitely brings the party vibes for this. The combinations of flowing basses and short sharp stabs from Kurnel MC, ensures a real soundsystem scorcher. Finishing off the EP, Beat-Breaker goes more up-tempo, bringing in the blinding vocals of Melody V. She hits you from the start, and keeps you locked. As part of the buildup to the 2023 16th Icebreakers Ball (Jan 26 at Monarch with DJ Icey), I'm sharing some of my favorite sets at this seminal event over the years. This one is from 2017, and we held it at Public Works that year as Mighty was gone and TGN was just about to start. San Francisco was always an embarassment of riches when it came to clubs in the 2000's. Any one of Mighty, Public Works, Mezzanine, Monarch, 1015, and others would have been the best club in a dozen other cities. For this year we raised money for the Janky Barge crew and had a huge turnout. This set was a concerted attempt to bring back some oldschool breaks sounds and I was really happy about it at the time. I still think it holds up today.

FunKnight - INHIBIT - Jan19 @ The Court

This mix is an exercise in running with an out-there idea and letting inspiration guide the way. 

I'm currently in the midst of a four-month stay on the island of Hawaii and was lucky enough to attend a wonderful rave campout in the wilds of Puna. I've been super curious about the underground scene out here and where the musical stylings lie(spoiler alert - mostly bass music). I wanted to find the happy medium between my typical predilections and the local sound, and started amassing some tracks. 

One of these tracks is titled "808" (after the drum machine, obvs), which is also the Hawaii area code -- it's a point of pride for natives here. I saw a young kid the next day wearing a t-shirt with a license plate illustration that said "808 ST8." 808 State! Now there's a band I hadn't listened to since, well, I started out on the DJ trip back in '91. And since I picked the decks back up I've been looking for a good excuse to work some of my favorites from the early early 90s into a set. Sure enough, a lot of these new deeper, richer tracks played really well with tracks almost 30 years their senior. 

So there's the long and winding tale of this mix. Shout out to my aging ravers ("gravers," I'm told we're called) who know where I'm coming from. And yeah, I hit the awesome new @stantonwarriors album pretty hard in this mix, but I'm also stoked I managed to slide them in between Acen and @808-state-official. :D
