Ably assisted on recording and production by Nino Auricchio this is a real slice of the early Funkshone sound, warts and all and was a B side to one of the first ever releases on Skyline Recordings! Big hitter drums, thumping bass, cutting wah guitar grooves and the all important Hammon Organ are all brought together to deliver a slice of Deep Funk ready for any speaker, headphone or dancefloor.

Welcome to New Orleans: A tribute to New Orleans Funk and Soul is the work of New Orleans native, DJ Personify. Raised in the Crescent City, the die-hard Hip-Hop fan learned early on that many of the samples he discovered originated in New Orleans. He soon became infatuated with the Funk and Soul music recorded there and has spent the better part of the last twenty years immersed in the culture of those records. Personify’s passion for New Orleans' music and culture extends to the present day and is manifested in this DJ mix masterpiece. Lovingly compiled, all of the artists featured on the mix are native to New Orleans with the exception of Hugo Montenegro who plays alongside Al Hirt (a New Orleans native) and The Headhunters, who are included here because of their work with Bill Summers (a life-long New Orleanian). All songs and samples used on this mix were recorded from vinyl sources. Here's my brand new 1h mix!

This is a return to my How To Cut & Paste style - there's a heavy emphasis on funk, jazz, soul, reggae, latin and hip-hop, plus a shitload of samples from my favourite movies and songs all relating to LUNCH (this is my first full project since BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS). 
I included exclusives of remixes I've done recently for The Charlatans and DJ Mighty Mi w/ Grand Puba. 
And there's some rare 90s rap freestyles, including one by RZA that I feel pretty certain doesn't exist anywhere on the internet!
Also, it's no coincidence that this mix is the length of your lunch break.

Going through some of our old external harddisks dug up in our studio basement annex wine cellar we came across this almost a decade (!) old Kraak & Smaak mixtape, inspired by the likes of Madlib and J Dilla. 
A blend of weird samples, lost and found grooves, it also features long lost Plastic People album demo’s – some of which made it on there eventually (spot ‘m if you can!) and some, well, didn’t.

Remembering the fact that we had good fun making this but never really did anything public with it, we thought it would be cool to share this with you after almost 10 years later after all.

So enjoy and be sure and listen from the top for maximum pleasure!
