Deep ambience with drones coming in and out of brooding soundscapes which depicts the deep space haulage vessel slowly moving through the void. The mix takes you through a slow trip into Space via tracks and productions by the likes of Cryo chamber, Robert Rich, Lustmord and Mick J. Harris. Once you've walked the nightmare hallways of the Nostromo a few times you may even find a cold comfort within these isolated surroundings. I appreciate dark ambience and have kept this at a sedate-though-chilling level of technological remoteness. Tune in the darkness for over two hours and a half of dark & eerie ambient immersion.

Musically speaking, dub techno has a haunting, haunted, tripped out site of memorial exploration where everything sounds half-remembered, half-there and half-real. The genre is akin to ambient music, in that music of both genres acts as background music on purpose. The best tracks in the dub techno genre do what little it does amazingly, in that every element in the mix is given breathing space and, accordingly, takes on a sense of the organic.

Despite America inventing techno as a whole, it doesn't seem to understand club culture. When Aphex Twin landed at Coachella for a rare excursion to the desert festival it could be safely surmised that Richard D. James was willing to put a cat amongst the pigeons. Aphex Twin's sweltering collision of music and graphics seemingly blew literal minds. At least according to this reviewer. The unknown American marveled at "The Aphex Twins" and their difference to other EDM artists, reflecting on her discovery that music can be art, and that the Warp icon has corrupted her soul. Brian Eno ambient tribute

Maybe best known for their debut album ” Music Has the Right to Children”, released in 1998, Boards of Canada’s music is reminiscent of the warm, analogue sounds of 1970s media and contains themes of childhood, nostalgia and the natural world. BoC’s sound is a product of their use of analogue equipment, mix of electronic and conventional instrumentation, use of distorted samples as well as live and recorded lyrics, and their layering and blending of these elements. Some various people have asked me in the past to make a BoC tribute but I felt it had been done to death and again Tamaris mix from France was in my opinion by far the best. BoC have not made many mixes but the ones they did are memorable. They are probably covered as much as Aphex twin despite having such a smaller output. Over 200 covers, remixes (unofficials) and edits of BOC here are some of my favorites. BOC takes me to a special place, I hope this mix will do the same for you through these new versions !

As I often play these records alongside newer releases, I realized most of those classics were more than 25 years old, I thought of compiling them together to show where dub tech comes from and how timeless most of these tracks are...Take a record like Round Four, discovered for a lot of people like me on Daniel Bell's mix (2000) The button down mind of Daniel Bell. More than 25 years onwards, you can look at a record like this, alongside Baby Ford and early Ricardo Villalobos as the blueprint for modern minimal and dubby electronic music, but that would imply that those genres later improved upon the overall formula. In reality, few got even close to as good as this. The origins of a genre is often more important than newer releases. Vainqueur is René Löwe famous from the Chain Reaction label. The B.C. track isn't Basic channel but a moniker which consists of Robert Leiner (Visions of the past) and Cisco Ferreira (The Advent). G-Man, whose productions were way ahead of its time on Force inc is Gez Varley from L.F.O. one half of it (other was Mark Bell), Quadrant is another moniker used by Basic channel, the EP was released in 1993 on R&S records the legendary Belgium label, and later repressed on Carl Craig's Planet E.

The Origins Of Dub Techno

Ambient dub is an electronic fusion of ambient and dub reggae, featuring the atmosphere of the former and the Jamaican style basslines, percussion, and psychedelic production techniques of the latter. The name of the genre was coined by the Beyond label with a series of compilation albums of the same name, starting with Ambient Dub Volume 1: The Big Chill in 1992. Waveform Records was also generally considered to be the American counterpart of the Beyond label out of the UK, which was exclusively devoted to the Ambient Dub movement. While the lines are blurred between these electronic genres, ambient dub can genuinely be discerned by its denser atmospheres, slow tempo, a heavier use of reverb and/or delay, and an emphasis on bass akin to traditional dub. It also echoed dub pioneers who used their studio as an instrument, like King Tubby and The Scientist.

Ambient - Dub : The Big chill (1992 - 1996)

Music for spaceports explores ethereal sounds, with a low key drone-ish approach to ambient. After assembling nearly 300 tracks, I trimmed the playlist down to 70-80 tracks with a final cut of 40 tracks in almost 3 h 00. It's music you can sleep to, work at the same time or study, with a keen emphasis on calm and soothing atmospheres & soundscapes. Carefully curated over the course of several months, I hope this mix brings you peace  adrift in Space in a state of weightlessness & mindfulness.

Music for Spaceports 006 : adrift in Space

FX-driven Jamaican soundsystems meeting the machines of techno with an abstract sound and loosely repetitive rhythms stucture, along with some usage of low end sonics - that's what dub techno is about. This music is a sonic experience far beyond the narrow pathways of techno, demonstrating that there is a universal code which connects repetitive patterns of organic sounds with club music. With a string of mind-altering atmospheres & warped basses and punchy beats to the fore, this mix is akin to an hallucinatory trip through the farthest reaches of psychedelic electronic music.

5 H 30 Dub Techno Special

Leftfield is a British electronic music group formed in 1989. It began as the duo of Neil Barnes and Paul Daley. In January 2010 Barnes resurrected Leftfield without Daley and, after touring for a few years, finished writing new material for a third album entitled Alternative Light Source. Daley declined to be involved and is focusing upon his solo career. The duo was very influential in the evolution of electronic music in the 1990s, with Mixmag describing them as "the single most influential production team working in British dance music". As with many of their contemporaries, such as the Chemical Brothers, Leftfield was notable for their use of guest vocalists in their works. Among those involved were Toni Halliday on "Original", Johnny Rotten on "Open Up", Djum Djum on "Afro-Left", and Earl 16 and Cheshire Cat on "Release the Pressure". The term progressive house was coined to define their style, a fusion of house with dub and reggae.

In an interview with Neil Barnes and Paul Daley of the group, published in 2017 on The Skinny, Paul Daley mentioned how John Peel influenced Leftfield via dub and reggae: "Dub and reggae had been around in my life from punk gigs of the mid seventies, and listening to the John Peel late night shows of the late seventies – it had a big influence on a lot of the feel of Leftism."

Dub techno is sometimes produced with vocals resulting in surprinsingly good results more than often. I ve selected 25 tracks which features vocalists (and some vocal samples) like Paul St-Hilaire and Benji. This is slowly meandering spacedub with deep, peaceful and dreamy lush ambient pads and dubby basslines. Though the old Rhythm & Sound influence is still clear—especially on the track Child was I—but what these producers are making truly feels fresh.

Monolake - A 3 H 00 Special Mix Tribute

Italo disco is a music genre which originated in Italy in the late 1970s and was mainly produced in the 1980s. Italo disco evolved from the then-current underground dance, pop, and electronic music, both domestic and foreign (hi-NRG, Euro disco) and developed into a diverse genre. The genre employs electronic drums, drum machines, synthesizers, and occasionally vocoders. It is usually sung in English, and to a lesser extent in Italian, Spanish and French (la plus belle langue au monde).

The origin of the genre's name is strongly tied to marketing efforts of the ZYX record label, which began licensing and marketing the music outside Italy in 1982.Italo disco faded in the early 1990s, then split into many genres (Eurobeat, Italo house, Italo dance).

Multiverse is a word used to describe an infinite group of disparate universes including the ones currently inhabited by humans. A myriad of realms that sit side by side, undetected by our senses, surround us at any given moment. The multiverse theory was first confirmed by tracking leakage of electromagnetic waves filtering from one dimension into the next. When these waves were transposed to fit into frequencies audible by the human ear, the recordings were studied by a team of scientists, who found that they contained rhythmic elements that resembled a speech pattern of an alien language...

Imagining the journey of a Blade runner, a skin job, in Los Angeles circa 2019 and using Vangelis covers and mainly tracks inspired by the soundtrack, I created an imaginary journey of Rick Deckard strolliing in LA 2019. Sound bytes from the sectors of Blade runner, tracks and samples from the movie were used. It’s a trip into the words of the LAPD, Bryant, Gaff, Deckard, Dick’s universe, product placement and obviously, an hommage to Vangelis…All those moments will hopefully not be lost in time...

Biosphere is the main recording name of Geir Jenssen (born 1962), a Norwegian musician who has released a notable catalogue of ambient music. He is well known for his early "ambient techno" aesthetic and later for his "arctic ambient" style, his use of music loops, and peculiar samples from sci-fi sources. His track "Novelty Waves" was used for the 1995 campaign of Levi's. His 1997 album Substrata was voted by www.hyperreal.org  as one of the all time classic ambient albums. But over the last few years his albums (such as Cirque, Shenzou, Autour de la lune, Dropsonde and N-plants) have embodied some touches of jazz, classical, drone and even some dub-techno. Biosphere Tribute

2009-2019 : Space mixes # 1 to 9. In 2009, I started mixing live ambient sets at my radio show, each saturday afternoon in Québec city. I don't think more than 6 people were listening (including my GF at that time) but later on, in 2011, I published the first one on Soundcloud : Space III. Now after 30 000 plays of them, I decided to make a best of mixing the best of them. The result is a spaced-out mix that might seriously soothe your mind & body. WARPED : 30 years of Warp records (1989-2020) 

An incredibly adventurous label that reaches a massive, loyal audience. It's the label that signs the most interesting talent. The home of Aphex Twin, Autechre, and BoC. Its story began in Sheffield in 1989 during the UK's acid house explosion. The bleep sound Warp helped shape and popularise was probably the UK's first truly innovative response to US house and techno, a sound to call its own. Through the Artificial Intelligence series, the label laid the groundwork for experimental electronic music as we know it today—music that didn't rely on a club environment to come alive—and went on to explore new sonic possibilities through IDM and fusions of guitars and dance music. The creation of, or response to, many major movements of electronic music's past three decades can be found in its vast catalogue.

WARPED - 30 Years Of Warp Records (1989 - 2020)

While also drawing on ambient and chillout elements, ambient-techno would be associated with labels such as Warp, R&S, Apollo & GPR. Releases focused more on albums than 12-inches. The genre also departed from dance-oriented sound heard at raves and instead saw popularity as a form of electronic listening music.
