Little Saturday morning jam. Yes, I'm aware that I'm posting this on Sunday. I haven't been able to log in to SoundCloud because their robots are accusing me of being a robot myself. Pot, meet kettle.

This ended up being a pretty relaxing jam, with nicely pulsating bass, and some sound that reminds me a lot of marimbas. Low-pass gates are awesome.

In which I use my drum practice pad as a controller for my modular setup. A contact mic near the badge of this pad is sent into Erica Synths Pico EF for further processing, and from there... the sky's the limit, really.

Cleaning Supplies - Ambient Drumline

The sophisticated sounds of the Nonlinear Circuits Delay No More module. I got this soldered over the weekend, and I have to say, I'm quite pleased with just how wonky this is. It's the delay effect I didn't know I needed!

This should hopefully illustrate why it's called "Delay No More" and why the NLC website has a search term labelled "Audio Mangling".

Patch is a clocked Pons Asinorum feeding a vactrol LPG CV to modulate a triangle wave input. Sloths Apathy X out is going to DNM's CV input. I'm manually wangjangling the mix knob, mostly, but then various other parameters. No post-processing other than normalization gain added.

Delay No More demo

Pitch entirely sequenced by the Deluge, run into the modular synth from there. The weird pitch-bent part can change every 3 beats, but the pitch is run into a Doepfer S&H. Envelope follower has a drum practice pad with a contact mic to its input, with the EF's gate output driving the S&H trigger.

Pretty neat way of approaching all of this, I think.

A four-step sequencer goes a long way if you've got a clock divider, a logic module, and a unity mixer.

The main sound is a Joranalogue Generate 3. No samples were used in this. I don't know how it ended up sounding so piano-like.

Use unfiltered, simple waveforms (square, sine, triangle, saw, noise) to compose a tune!
The various colors and bit-depths of noise all count as simple waveforms, as does any variation of any aforementioned waveform which is bilaterally or rotationally symmetrical. Of course, only a NERD would create sounds like that. 🤓

Razma Music Challenge 004 - Saga
Make a song which contains the history of its own creation. There are two main approaches I've envisioned: ACCURATE and NATURAL.
For the most ACCURATE sound, record this entire process externally (e.g., by filming it, or by having Audacity record the Stereo Mix and your mic input) so that EVERYTHING (including your spoken comments, sounds in the room, software crashes, distractions, etc.) become part of the finished piece. This will tell the most complete history.
For the most NATURAL sound, treat the composition as a loop and allow it to play on loop while making it. We'll hear the experience of making this song as if each individual iteration of the song were itself part of a greater arrangement. This will be the most composed.
ADVICE: Work on areas the playhead has already passed by this round, or else just work quickly! Choose the song's tempo and length from the beginning and stick with them. Then each iteration can be sampled and treated as a seamless loop later on.
