With murmurs of a UK Funky revival growing louder recently, last night saw several of the scene's longest standing members turn out at Vauxhall's Lightbox for a <a href="http://boilerroom.tv/session/uk-funky-flashback/" target="_blank">Boiler Room session</a> that provoked as much nostalgia as it did optimism about the future.  Playing alongside Marcus Nasty and DJ Pioneer was MA1, a supporter and producer of UK Funky since the beginning. Making his way from the underground with Rinse FM all the way up to mainstream House strongholds such as Ministry of Sound and Radio 1, he never stopped promoting the uniquely rhythmic and sensual stylings of Funky - even when it appeared as if the genre was on the wane.

Now after having enjoyed the attention of many of the world's electronic music lovers via his Boiler Room set, he's keeping the momentum going by dropping one of his long standing pieces of dancefloor artillery for us all to enjoy. First emerging as an instrumental in 2009, 'Bounce' by London trio Funkystepz saw a release as 'For U' the following year when it was vocalled by longtime collaborator Lily Mckenzie. In true MA1 fashion, his rework of the instrumental doesn't over complicate things - retaining the instantly recognisable chords and flourishes whilst underpinning things with a dangerous heft of deep synth bass.
