Asriel's position in the human-monster war is an interesting one. While Asgore waged war upon humanity, the responsibility for finishing what he's started now rests on his child, the new king of the Underground. He's conflicted; after all, his best friend is a human. Even though Asgore made sure that Chara was excluded from their war on humans, something about this whole mess didn't sit right with him.

But they're so close to freedom now. To put a stop to this now would only cause more problems.
