My music from 1993 to 1996 has reached a so-called peak time.
Not only regular song writing are somehow improved 
but also the emphasis on experiential music became stronger.

Around 1993 I stayed in London. 
I was allowed to visit and met so many people.
With my tape of an audio source from Picasso Fish
I went to the audition at the Silver Tone Records office.
Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3 looking for a guitarist.

Around this time, there were so many Britpop band, 
underground music, 
or the direction of club music on the scene.
But I joined the local goth band once 
and we practiced in the dirty garage where the vocalist owned. lol
It seems that my black long hair was suitable.
LOL

It will be a little longer, so
I will tell you just briefly.
NOVA (Supernova, not English conversation school in Japan), 
which was like Minimal rock with heavy guitar at the beginning.
It began with an encounter with Scottish man, Charles Holms.
I was a bass player and singing, Fabrice was guitar.
three drum-less bands.

Charles (Chez) had a short hair and he looked like Ian Curtis of Joy Division.
Otherwise,he will be Jarvis Cocker of PULP.
After Fab left, we became two drum-less band.

By the time we had been doing a constant live performance at ‘Bull & Gate’ in Kentish town.
It was a great pub!!! 
We called ourself to "exit" and totally welcomed for being a newcomer on experimental music.
We teased by calling ‘The Noise terrorists’, we performed as a front act for many bands. LOL
And in shabby local pub in South London we had once play 
as the front act ‘Placebo’ before they became famous. 
After a while, I was in good shape with Chez, 
but I'm looking for a direction that is not experimental music without a fully instrumental song, 
and started early FUREASTEEN.

The members are Toshio, Sakura-chan and Kodama-kun. 
I played the bass and the singing.  
Guitar by Toshio, and keyboard on Sakura-Chan and a drum by Kodama-kun.
We liked Stereolab and other So-called Post-rock, bit little more pop in experimental music. 
But everyone wasn't so good at the instrument, 
so We were like very early Talking Heads.

Every Sunday We practiced at my place in NorthDown Street, King's Cross 
I still think that magic was born from this member.
The song I wrote at that time ‘DisKord’!!!  
Because everyone went to see Sonic Youth, so the sound we were affectionate to them. 
Youth time is full of fun.  ^ _ ^
Now I getting old but let's keep the heart young forever ^ _ ^

I fairly remember the winter of 1995 that the Shoegazer Band 
Slowdive released the album 
called ”Pygmalion".

Masao-kun as MAX 
(At that time, or before I met he said that he had been supporting the guitar for ‘Cocteau Twins’)
The introduction of A-chan, we hang around. was very busy.
I still lived in Kilburn.


With Masao-kun, I remember going to many places more than A-chan.
I went to Amsterdam and saw the another great band ’Pale Saints’ together. lol 
The day before ‘Pale Saints’ gig in Paradiso, Amsterdam, was ‘Wedding present’ !!!!!
I wanted to see them, but Masao-kun liked ‘Pail Saints’.

Like us who liked ‘My Bloody Valentine’ and ‘Ride’ the shoegaze band, 
I think that we were deeply influenced by the effective guitar at that time
  (I cannot quite remember we did called them ‘shoegazer’ ?).
Masao-kun's guitar is pretty amazing.

Later, I returned to Japan, I asked Masao-kun to play the guitar at the live of ‘Weekend Phase’, 
which I formed with SHINO KENSHI in Tsudanuma.
I amazed and said Why does it sound like that with a guitar? 
It was really cool.

Back to the story of London,’Slowdive’ Pygmalion is their third album. 
It was released on February 6, 1995.
According to wiki
Drummer Simon Scott withdrew during the recording, 
and Ian McCachon took over as the successor.
The band released the creation next week and released the album the next week.
Well, before that release, they were plan to do a live show in London. 
and I went to Venue near Tottenham Road with Masao-kun. 
Then, there is a sticker, and the concert is canceled.

At that time, I did not know their break-up.  
I really wanted to hear anyone play live performances, 
so we hang around Soho-area , maybe I saw a band  on the venue at ‘the Border line’ or ‘London Astoria’
Slowdive seems to be reuniting in 2018 and performing live.

Originally, this song was recorded using A-chan's 8-track recorder.
I used the ebow to vibrate the strings and use the feedback and 
gadgets that produce a keyboard-like sound with sustain.
In this time of recording, I use keyboard strings instead of ebow. lol
The sound of dream pop is born again!!!!

In 80's British music, FELT is the band that I liked next to The Smiths.

I really liked the crispness of their guitar sound, the fluffy feeling of the organ, 
and the lyrics of Lawrence singing "I can't help it".
Lawrence goes through ‘Denim’ and now plays a synth-kinky pop song by the name of 
‘Go Cart Mozart’. （What a great name!)  
He likes Puffy the Japanese kinky Synth Pop group in Japan, I saw it in some articles. LOL

However, the chord progression of this song is another 80’s God ‘The Cure's ‘Boys don't cry’ .
No doubt ^ _ ^
What's good about FELT was their musical character, but also if you like the band, you will be interested in the other artists on the record label!

From 1981 to 1985 Felt was in Cherry Red Records.

Alan Maggie recently came to Japan and DJ-ing at some night club and events. 
I just followed his Instagram!

Back in the old days there were a lot of other record labels.
It would be natural for me, who loved the Smiths, to send a demo tape to Rough Trade Records.
What song did you send? I wonder. 
Even the sound of the demo tape is no longer present.
A demo tape sent to a record label never returns. 
Not only mine, but tens of thousands of demo tapes are becoming stardust.
Music seems ephemeral when you think so.
While anyone in this network environment can now release the sound source, 
I think that is a great thing, on the other hand, 
a melody that becomes a lot of stardust Where they are gone?
Well, I wonder…

After finishing my life in England, I returned to Japan around 1997.
As my mind changed, the scenery in Japan also changed.
People's minds change, though my conviction does not change!

Fureasteen and other music I wanted to continue, but I wanted to go back to Japan and think a little.
I had no money.

This song is the song I was plcying with the early days of Fureasteen.
Title: Lost In Tokyo.
I am from Chiba, I always lost in Tokyo. Lol

Yes, I think I was always lost.
When I was little, I can relive my lostboy experience at the amusement park.
I've heard that I was quite calm and cool and I looked around various play equipment places on my own.
It seems that I was accustomed to the environment with different people and settled easily.
Because I always stayed at my grandparents, my uncle and my aunt's house since I was little.

However, recently it is quite different.
Just when my bed changed,
I can't sleep.
I think I became timid.
or Is it spiritual thing?
Is that because I got old?
Did my ability to adapt to the environment decline?
Oh I do not know.

I am a Lost In Somewhere.
I have forgotten something somewhere.
I do not yet know what it is.

I returned to Japan and
got a good job ^ _ ^
My English ability was scolded and save me.
There was also a time when I worked so hard and I got a bit funny.
I did not think that I liked to work, but my blood. lol

Musically, I went back to Songbird, talked about what I had been doing with Master, asked Panda-san to repair the Songbird guitar, and became friends with Shiono Kenji, who had released a solo album from Toshiba EMI at the time. And we started working on under the name of Weekend Phase.
We recorded and live for the purpose of experimental pop rock, and then, I supported as the Bass guitar and guitar for the certain band.

I had great chance to meet with my partner.
I've got a house, I met a special family.
The lost child walks on various roads and has an interesting life.
Yet there will be many more from now on!
It has been 30 years since my first trip to Europe.
And the beginning of a new era begins from Heisei to Reiwa!!.
How excitng!

All these days I have been ...
and the journey continue.

NOVA / EXIT was formed in London, England in the mid-1990s.
Under the influence of POST ROCK and experimental music, 
FUREASTEEN remixed and released their lost tape, which was said to be a noise terror. The original impulsive improvisation asks what music is.

Fureasteen were originally formed in London in 1995 by Tomokazu Date, who had previously played experimental music with Chez Holmes of Exit aka Nova.At first Fureasteen were a four piece band of which only Tomokazu was an experienced musician ( he preferred using japanese art school students with enthusiasm for making their own music).Each sunday they gathered in a small Kings Cross flat to record experimental music using a cheap synthesizer and Casiotone keyboards.Eventually in 1997 the band gained the attention of i Records who released a 7" single "Kasiotelemusik".Not long after its release the band split up. To this day Tomakazu still makes music under the Fureasteen name.
ファーイスティンは、1993年ロンドンでEXIT（前身NOVA）としてチェズ・ホームズと実験音楽をやっていたダテトモカズによって結成されました。
当初ファーイースティンは、４人のメンバーがいて、トモカズのみ経験があるミュージシャンで他のメンバーはアートスクールに通う日本人学生でした。毎週日曜日にキングスクロスにあるフラットにて、安いシンセサイザーとカシオトーンのみで実験的な音楽を奏でレコーディングに明け暮れていました。1997年にアイ・レコード（Che Records傘下) より「カシオテレミュージック」の７インチシングルをリリースしましたが、ほどなくバンドは解散しました。トモカズだけがファーイスティン名義で音楽を作って活動しています。
