‘Shine (This Is It)’ is the first single from @soulclap ’s self-titled second album that features legendary vocalist Nona Hendryx. After @ray-mang met Charles and Eli when all played at LA party institution A Club Called Rhonda this happened.
Nona Hendryx is an original member of the trio Labelle who’s smash single “Lady Marmalade” is a timeless classic. Her solo singles “Transformation” and “Do What You Wanna Do” from the 80’s are equally prolific to her work as a back-up vocalist for a laundry list of legendary acts including Parliament-Funkadelic, Talking Heads and Peter Gabriel. There is magic contained in ‘Shine (This Is It)’ and the strength in Hendryx's vocal empowers our sprits and moves us on the dancefloor.
 Midnight Magic’s Morgan Wiley delivers an outstanding keyboard solo and fellow bandmate Jason Disu teams up with Kalí Rodríguez and No Regular Play’s Greg Paulus to form the Soul Clap horn section.
Taking the magical vocals, horns and keyboard solo from the original, Ray Mang
gives it a latin house twist adding an elevating Rhodes motif, bass and battery.

Let's now give a warm welcome to our EPs series all the way from Padova / Italy and uprising producer: Paul Older a.k.a. Paolo Vecchiato, with previous releases on Slightly Transformed and Thunder Jam Records Paul arrives with four stunning afro cuts to the label. As an opener, Paul delivers 'A Boo Kee Moon' filled with a tropical colorful rhythm section, flamin' hot guitar riffs and joyful Afro vocals. Right next to it comes 'Cosmicafricano' dominated by a vigorous bassline ostinato, powerful conga fills and smooth piano chords taking you right straight to the jungle. For our third cut 'Kuma Kuma' arrives as a sexy African anthem escorted by dazzling female vocals, a smooth saxophone solo and breathy flutes making it an exceptional cut to start any set. Our last track 'Monkey Boogie' closes the EP with acid-retro synths, an outstanding disco guitar riff and a perpetuous growing pad taking us back to the disco jungle, stay tuned for more !!

My rework of his own rework of his classic 'Alien (Hold On To Your Dreams)', his own beautiful homage to the immigrant story of America. His re-recorded version was part of the posthumous 'Nothing New' compilation that XL Recordings released in 2014, featuring recordings from 2008 of some of his favourite works. I think that version of 'Alien' is so much more powerful than the original, the pain of the lyrics amplified by his then-gruffed-up voice. And it's a message we can all get behind right now particularly I think.
