Futurepast presents Berlin based DJ Garo. Connecting Sofia and Berlin, he has been shaping Bulgaria’s electronic music scene for the past decade. As the booker and curator of renowned clubs and events, he established Sofia as a must-visit destination for serious music enthusiasts.

Guided by instinct - no rules - this mix moves through leftfield techno, breaky textures, downtempo, ambient, and some dubby/post-punk hints. Capturing a laid back, after hour energy, with a cinematic feel that creates tension between introspection and release!

A surreal, dreamlike journey — more emotional than linear, soundtracking those moments where words are obsolete.

Twice does not lead to a tradition - but it feels like playing for @swimsupply 🏊 . Whenever the community organisation focusing on lysergic sounds calls, I am more than happy to meet beloved Ellen, Mark Lando and Tesdorpf and to play for their fine events.

S.R.P Feature: Wish FM 96.1 on Domestic Recordings (Los Angeles, 1996)

Released in 1996 on LA–SF imprint Domestic Recordings, Wish FM 96.1 formed part of Wade Hampton’s “virtual radio station” project. The format framed a CD mix as a fictive late-night broadcast, giving ambient, electro and early trance a platform largely absent from commercial FM in the mid-90s. In doing so, this published mix anticipated the logic of online radio, functioning as a self-contained broadcast rather than programme tied to a fixed slot.

The compilation emerged as Los Angeles and San Francisco were shaping a distinct West Coast strain of trance and ambient techno through labels Domestic and Hardkiss (SF), Moonshine and Exist Dance (LA). —psych-leaning, breakbeat-driven, melodic but understated, the West coast differed from the harder European trance styles or the deep-house oriented movement in the east coast centres of Chicago and New York. In San Francisco, early tech-industry growth and rising redevelopment pushed nightlife out of central areas, into smaller, artist-run spaces, building on a scene formed around a long-running psychedelic arts communities. In Los Angeles, increased policing, zoning pressure combined with the dominance of the entertainment industry led to post-rave crackdowns redirecting activity toward post-industrial warehouses and the long-running desert and reservation parties. As in several European cities under similar constraints, these conditions led artists to rely on informal networks, independent labels and self-organised structures.

Wish FM 96.1 includes several projects from across the west coast defining this specific environment: Symbiosis (Southern California) reoccurring work with ambient textures and loose breakbeat patterns. Westside Chemical (LA) lean toward a tighter, electro-influenced sound. South of Market (San Francisco) represent the Bay Area’s melodic, lightly psychedelic techno.
