Furtherset returns to -OUS with his album ‘To Live Tenderly Anew’, following his EPs ‘To Alter and Affect’ and ‘Drawings of Desire and Hate’. He notes: “I think of my previous two EPs for -OUS and this album as a trilogy, where this album is the final chapter”. Furtherset is in search of hidden connections beyond harmonies and rhythm. Melodies are repeated until they reach their breaking point. Moments of relief are drowned out in densely packed sound. Intensity is maximized to the nth degree, creating a crest point that threatens to overwhelm pre-existing traces of activity completely.

The opening track ‘To Live Tenderly Anew’ begins with a fragile melody, only to erupt into pulsating synthesizer figures that continuously expand, before pulverizing into sharp, noise-flecked fragments, and finally dissolving into an ambient pad. Midway-through ‘The Logic of a Secret’, the music finally sparks into Furtherset’s signature arpeggio patterns, sprinting over a powerful bassline. The album finally climaxes with ‘Choirs of Deception and Truth’, a beatless rave hymn, before it, too, dissolves into deep space. Using only synthesizers, Furtherset creates metamorphic music, drawing on ambient, modern classical and rave, and building on his individual approach to composition, where long fades and periodic cuts continuously transform the scene.

The album’s title references Amelia Rosselli’s 1956 poem ‘Diario in tre lingue’, in which the experimental writer - who was born in exile in Paris, moved to the UK after the murder of her anti-fascist activist father, was educated in the US and finally settled in Rome - charts relations between the Italian, the French & the English. This poem laid the groundwork for her singular trilingual poetry, a body of work engaged in the research of tradition, and how tradition is passed on in disjointed manifestations.

With his fourth release on -OUS, Furtherset presents an intriguing three-part EP that plots a unique confluence of ambient, experimental electronics and modern classical; three chapters of stratospheric drama and depth that set the stage for his long-awaited forthcoming album.

‘Auras’ begins with the gentle drift of sparks and tremors, moving into delicately wrought, disintegrative currents of sound, before sustaining a sense of elevated physicality, and expanding outwards, reaching for the beyond. Furtherset develops new compositions with the mindset of a writer who approaches the blank page of a new book. Articulations appear, briefly at first, then develop into words, then into sentences, and finally, a compelling story is formed.

Rhythms transition into melodies, harmonics are added almost imperceptibly, creating an abundant filigree of sound. ‘Auras’ is a spiralling work of glitch and slippage, of surge and overload, of stillness and suspension.

Furtherset’s new music is time dilating and dimensional, creating space and stature, a world which contains dazzling and manifold tonalities. ‘Auras’ illustrates an evolution: «I wanted to have much more clarity and technical precision, to make everything more crystalline». Like the prismatic light of a crystal ‘Auras’ changes as each element comes into focus. Here Furtherset takes the listener on an emotive, mercurial journey, designing a towering universe of evocative sensation and memory.

'The Infinite Hour' is a shattered elegy synthesized in electronics. Furtherset’s music does not explain, settle or justify, it rather simply manifests the grip of anguish. As a whole, the album’s six compositions resemble the labored breathing of one who mourns a disappearance and fears oblivion. A feeling like having one’s chest weightened by a stone, while still being attentive to one’s breath, and aware of what remains. From this dimension The Infinite Hour arises and transfigures loss into a space that is always extending: the hour is infinite, the melody is circular, and even stasis has its own measure that is exceeded into eternity.

The album was created between 2020 and 2022, in a slow process of writing and continuous refinement parallel to the previous EP, 'Auras'. The compositions found their final form during the mixing process carried out together with Bienoise. They were later named based on references to authors who influenced and are dear to Furtherset: Amelia Rosselli, Vladimir Chlebnikov, Hubert Damisch, Dante Alighieri. Each track, composed with its live rendition in mind, manifests itself to the listener as a possible variant of a path that is never definitive. Their live performance, an increasingly distinctive moment within Furtherset’s work, is a gesture of concentration and extension, where every composition is developed through meticulous variations of each singularity.

'The Infinite Hour' is one possible manifestation of an ever-changing musical landscape, a universe with unmistakable sounds but always on the verge of disintegrating, collapsing, and opening up spaces, times, infinities.

His compositions’ distinctive traits are stratifications and recursive shifting modulations, synthetic clusters and sampling, alongside rhythmic and embracing harmonies. The project is envisaged as formal research that follows a path towards saturation and layering, but is always capable of generating voids in which the listener can take their place and fill them according to their own focus.

Furtherset, the musical project of Venice-based composer and visual artist Tommaso Pandolfi, debuts with his first album for Kohlhaas, the sixth in his career, 'Wounds of Melody'.
A layered image of devastation and beauty, where Renaissance tears merge with the incandescence and violence of phosphorus, the artwork is the first encounter in the emotional itinerary that unfolds in the five tracks making up the LP.

Over its forty-one minutes, the album's beatless but mesmerizing promenade is punctuated by mute, eternal and unexploded melodies. Awaiting and ineffability stand as the compositional pillars of this spellbinding cycle, where each chapter serves as a model and measure for an innermost tour of heartstrings.

A sense of stasis pervades it, anticipating the arrival of something extremely fragile and tender, until a fracture transforms this expectation into great walls of sound. Opposing gravities clash and melt into each other: delicate pads, dislocated echoes, detuned wavetable swirls and stretched leads all converge towards a frail singularity. This sonic rapture vanishes as it appeared, flashing back to the melody, the bass line, and the subtle synthetic timbres, repeated and bit by bit modulated from the beginning, finally eclipsing into evanescent codas.

Through the repetition of structures that gradually rarefy over time, 'Wounds of Melody' aims to evoke and unlock possibilities, echoing Clarice Lispector’s idea of «suppressing facts and privileging sensations.»

Starting from December 2021 during a Residency at Palazzo Trevisan degli Ulivi (Pro Helvetia in Venice, Venezia), I concentrated my live practice on playing just one track live, resynthesizing, time stretching and hyper-editing into microloops (as through a microlens) the studio work, now transfigured for the live setting. In this case, and that was the most played during the last year concerts since its release on the Swiss label -OUS in 2022, the track was 'Auras'.

Playing only one long track is for me an exercise in giving the listener an experience of careful immersion into one work, without overexposing the ear with too much informations. It's a work of attention also for me, reimagining a track of a few minutes as one long 'orchestral' work, in a circular structure of differences and repetitions.

Furtherset is the musical project of Venice-based composer and visual artist Tommaso Pandolfi (b. 1995). His compositions’ distinctive traits are melodic loops, synthetic clusters and rarefied ambiences. The project follows a path towards saturation and layering, yet always manages to create voids where listeners can find their place and fill them according to their own focus.
Active since 2011, he has released the EPs “Auras” (2022), “To Alter and Affect” (2018) and “Drawings of Desire and Hate” (2018), as well as the albums “To Live Tenderly Anew” (2020) and “The Infinite Hour” (2023) on the Swiss label -OUS. The 2025 album "Wounds of Melody" marks his debut on Kohlhaas.
His music has been presented at festivals and institutions such as Club To Club, Bad Bonn Kilbi, Triennale Milano, Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi, Istituto Svizzero, MACRO.
He has curated sound or live soundtracks for films and videos by Benedetta Fioravanti, Pedro Maia, Artavazd Pelešjan.
