𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Your first DJ gig. How and where was it?
𝙑𝙇𝘼𝘿: My first dj gig was almost 17 years ago. It was a small bar in the centre of Kyiv. All of my friends came to support me but there were a lot of other people too so I was very scared anyway.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: What do you love on Kyiv?
𝙑𝙇𝘼𝘿: Kyiv is the best city for me. I’ve tried to live in different places abroad and nowhere I could reach that feeling of home. The city brings me comfort and joy. Maybe because all my friends and family are here. Maybe because it’s very diverse and during frequent walks I always find something refreshingly new. Even though I know almost everything here. Also I like how Kyiv smells in every season and I’m waiting to feel this smell again.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: How many times a week do you work out?
𝙑𝙇𝘼𝘿: I’m working out 4 times a week. I’m a bit addicted )

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Sunrise or sunset?
𝙑𝙇𝘼𝘿: For sure sunset. Especially in spring.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Any plans for the future?
𝙑𝙇𝘼𝘿: Yes, for sure. I’m happy to announce that this year I’ll have one more EP with Lvcerate and my first solo EP. And I’m also excited to collaborate with a very talented artist, but I will not tell her name. We will announce it a bit later)

Sympathies is a series of self-released EPs by Furtive, showcasing an extensive catalog of production. With his signature understated bravado and studio idiosyncrasies, the DC-based producer reveals seven tracks of tuff drums, cryptic shifting textures, and weird acid on his second personal release. 

The murky, serpentine track Zamenis kicks off the EP with clattering percussion and grinding textures set against a pensive, primordial atmosphere. This driving dancefloor wiggler can be slowed down to effectively add a more hypnotic, trippy mood to a mix.

Void Profusion is a bold, rolling track that pairs a pressurized acid line with veils of mirage-like gossamer pads. This track can serve as a hefty dancefloor cudgel or as cruise control in a dynamic, banging set.

KetAnemone is a scuzzy, slow-burning acid bomb that aptly conveys the stroboscopic propulsion and dissociative warehouse mayhem of powders creeping into the bloodstream 

Sympathies II winds past the bellicose, clanging tones of Soma Vulture, the constricted and gritty synth punctuation of Karada, and Puncture’s malevolent synth stabs and glistening, flickering textures to arrive at Undivided. Opening with a commanding kick and rippling percs, Undivided immediately demands attention, building into a blissful, dreamy haze before slamming right back into a full-tilt acid workout. Too sincere to be over-the-top, Undivided is an exultant, shameless acid anthem. 

Sympathies is named after a series of portraits, experimental photographs, and weird VHS footage incidentally produced together with Furtive’s dear friend Matty during a wild, debauched studio session.

Furtive is a full-gonzo rave conjurer and relentless creative tinkerer, intractably committed to the rave as a Philadelphia-based producer, DJ, underground event organizer, and dancer. Furtive brings a scintillating and sentimental touch to their many polished and focused genre-spanning productions, informed by over a decade of experience in the studio and yielding a rich selection of self-released tracks, contributions to VA comps, and recent vinyl pressings. A veritable product of the contemporary American underground, Furtive cut their teeth as a DJ and DIY event organizer in Washington, DC’s warehouses, where they played a turnkey role in putting on some of the District’s zaniest techno parties. Furtive now co-runs an intimate, blossoming off-the-books venue in Philly. As a DJ, Furtive has supported internationally celebrated, no-nonsense acts and held court in dingy local watering holes with eclectic selections and a steadfast focus on pacing and dynamics, regularly jumping genres to build moving and impactful sets. Beyond the fog and speaker stacks, Furtive creates art in a variety of mediums. They're as unapologetic in their sincerity and flair as they are in being a die-hard True Believer in the rave.
