If honest, simple people are the salt of the earth, what is the salt of music? Could it be the emotional and deceptively simple ambient of FMSAO and his new album Salt FMSAO is Evgeny Shchukin, co-founder of Fuselab and the musician with many names. He produces eclectic electronic music as WOLS and abstract pop as part of duo Narcissi. His previous collaborations include Modul, Sofeet, Wetwe, Zaria and Feldmaus. The latter project, an ambient collective of Shchukin, Alexander ‘’Koett’’ Tochilkin and Sergey Suokas, served as the basis for FMSAO.

Although it is a solo project of Shchukin, it is a place of collaboration with other musicians. Here you can see joint works with AL-90 (post-rock sublime opener Berega), Проделки Больной Головы (almost danceable Naprav Etu Energiyu and Pips), Krikitoka & Barmazuta (caustic improv Mashina Vremeni), MFeld-T (glorious cinematic T-Ode 1229) and Dremming Stroze (nostalgic Slyozy). Соль is a monolith of an album. During its runtime, you will be deeply immersed in the world of FMSAO. The beauty of nature combines here with the artefacts of the foreseeable future. (You can see the sardonic side of this image in the name of the track Non-Fungible Forests). FMSAO’s music is captivating, sophisticated, and amusing. The salt of the music? Well, it’s honest, but not that simple.

Paita is a project of musician and sound producer Kolya Dolgov, currently living in Moscow.

In 2021 the album "What is not" was released, which became the starting point in the formation of the young artist's style and sound.
Experiments with dub and ambient, explorations of "raw" electronics and new-age, participation in punk bands as a bass-guitarist, moves, travelling, meetings and breakups, love and hate. The line of changes through which both the musician and his lyrical hero passes stretches to the new release "Southern Man".

"Southern Man" is an album-metamorphosis, it is a story or better to say a notebook, about the changes that a young guy goes through. Accustomed to seeing the emptiness of the horizon, he is met with monolithic granite structures, and instead of the great water of the sea, there is now a river winding subtly in channels. 'It's what's inside, but you can listen to it' says Пайта (Paita).

The album features collaborations with label residents FMSAO, Shoom Berez, X.Y.R. , NWIII, as well as guest artists 8luetic and Молох. Here you can hear gentle pop ambient, uncomplicated balearic house, juke and dub.

FMSAO, aka Evgeny Shchukin, is a co-founder of the independent label Fuselab, which discovers amazing talents from across Russia. As a music producer, he creates shimmering hyperpop within the WOLS project (releases on Hyperboloid Records, Pingipung) and transforms Cossack songs using trance sequences and bass rhythms in the Narcissi duo (their debut album "Narcissi" was released on Aisha Devi's Danse Noire label). He is also a DJ who has played at numerous festivals and club parties. Additionally, Evgeny is a sound designer and audio engineer (multimedia project ЛУЧ [LUCH], films "ЗАЛ," "Время еще есть" and is responsible for mastering many releases currently coming out in the CIS region).


FMSAO is Evgeny's alter ego dedicated to more abstract ambient forms, built on dotted minor sequences, enveloping pads, and deeply pulsating rhythms. His music brings a kind of atmospheric emotional shift with a gentle psychedelic tint and a lo-fi aesthetic. Although it is Shchukin's solo project, it is also a space for collaborations with other musicians. For instance, on the 2021 album "Salt," released on his own Fuselab label, you can find joint works with AL-90 (the sublime post-rock intro "Berega"), Prodelki Bolnoy Golovy (the slightly danceable "Naprav Etu Energiyu" and "Pips"), Krikitoka and Barmazuta (the prickly improvisation "Mashina Vremeni"), MFeld-T (the magnificent and cinematic "Ode 1229"), and Dremming Stroze (the nostalgic "Slyozy"). "Salt" is a monolithic album. As you listen, you will dive deep into the world of FMSAO, where the beauty of nature combines with artifacts of the near future (you can see the ironic side of these images in the track title "Non-Fungible Forests"). FMSAO's music is captivating, engaging, and quite sophisticated. The essence of the music? Well, this music is honest—but definitely not simple.

In 2022, FMSAO released the album "Retain a Breath," and in 2023, another full-length album, "Tales of Severe Damage," on Moscow's Glubina Neba, and presented the double single "Мы не с​п​р​я​ч​е​м​с​я от Б​о​г​а / П​о​г​л​я​д​и на н​е​б​о", created in collaboration with Nikolai Dolgov aka Пайта.

The new album "Ultime" will be released again on the native Fuselab label and will contain 24 tracks of various styles—from the classic lo-fi ambient typical of FMSAO to full-fledged dance arrangements with echoes of IDM and acid music. The album will once again feature many collaborative compositions, including collaborations with NWIII, AL-90, Paita, X.Y.R., Vika Kuchak, mishinuki, Ens Dormir, Shoom Berez, сияниесевера and Barmazuta. "Ультимэ" is a kind of panopticon of FMSAO's creativity. As the author himself says about the album: "I wanted to write a small album of everything I love..." The word "small," in the context of an almost 2-hour album, is rather sarcastic, but the assortment of everything Evgeny loves within FMSAO is exactly the subject for attentive study by the ears.
