Fuelled by his passion for contemporary Australian music, Bradley Zero (RS INTL boss) caught wind of the band and was quick in declaring their debut release, a limited 12” on Plastic World, as one of the best of 2013. This Place EP is the product of an ensuing cross-continental relationship and offers a fleshed out introduction to the Sydney four-piece’s sound with three immersive, sprawling tracks

Drawing from the leftfield avant-pop of Arthur Russell and Talking Heads, progressive disco of Nile Rodgers and contemporary ambient electronica, Retiree channel these through their own pervasive aura of rum-drunk antipodean sunshine. The result is music that is in equal parts lush, thoughtful melody and meditative tropical rhythm.

The EP sees joint international release from Peckham, London label Rhythm Section International who released the instant classic debut of Al Dobson Jr, and were nominated for label of the year at Gilles Peterson's 2015 worldwide awards, as well as purveyors of southern hemisphere groove-driven underground pop Plastic World (GL, Savoir).

It will be accompanied by three conceptually related yet geographically disparate videos, filmed between Sydney, Melbourne and London.

This Place EP is released worldwide June 22nd on 12” vinyl and digital.

Music For Dreams is proud to present the compilation "Leo Mas presents Mediterraneo" selected by legendary Ibiza DJ and record collector extraordinaire Leo Mas. The Italian-born DJ gained his reputation spinning alongside Alfredo in the mid-to-late 80s in seminal club Amnesia, creating a sound which influenced clubland worldwide and which resonates massively today in the modern Balearic scene. "Leo Mas presents Mediterraneo" brings together some of his favourite obscurities and rare beauties from the 70s and 80s - tracks that both shaped him and star in his sets.

Ntombi Ndaba's "Do You Trust Amajita?" is the second track made available for streaming prior to the release of the compilation "Gumba Fire: Bubblegum Soul & Synth Boogie in 1980s South Africa", out on 9 March 2018 on Triple Vinyl, CD and digital.

The compilation features 16 rare cuts handpicked by Miles Cleret (Soundway) and DJ Okapi (Afrosynth) highlights the period that nestles in between the ‘70s (where American-influenced jazz, funk and soul bumped shoulders with local Mbaqanga) and the ‘90s when Kwaito and eventually house music ruled the dancefloors of urban South Africa.

These tracks have been made available for the first time on digital and first time on vinyl outside of their original release.

Soundway Records present ’24 Hours in A Disco 1978 - 82’, 7 cuts of relentless disco grooves from the sublimely gifted Kiki Gyan. Hailed as Africa’s answer to Stevie Wonder, Ghanaian multi-instrumentalist Kiki Gyan was a musical wunderkind who by 1975 had risen from the lowly status of high school dropout to being ranked eighth in a poll of the greatest keyboardists in the world (occupying the rarefied air of the top ten with heavyweights like Steve Winwood, Billy Preston, and Stevie Wonder) as well as becoming an in-demand session player in the top recording studios of London - all before his twenty-first birthday. 

Out on his own, he produced a series of highly ambitious disco records aimed at positioning him as an international star, but weighed down by the excesses of the era, Gyan saw his meteoric rise matched by an equally swift fall back into obscurity. 

Loved dearly by his contemporaries and sorely missed since his death in 2005 the story of the life of Kofi Kwarko ‘Kiki’ Gyan is one often told with warning by his friends to the new generation of aspiring Ghanaian popstars.

Soundway Records now collects the best of Gyan’s work as a frontman and solo artist, featuring an array of electrifying disco grooves that still sound contemporary (and in some cases futuristic) decades after their initial release.

Released on CD and 2xLP both formats are accompanied with detailed liner notes written by Uchenna Ikonne. LP version comes with a free MP3 download of the release.
