With the UK’s ‘Freedom Day’ of 19 July also comes the unlocking of countries all around the world, including in Australia, home country of rising House DJ Alex Preston. The Sydney native contributes to a worldwide party feeling today with his laidback, irresistible new slice of soul house ‘Lots Of Soulful Vocals’.

Luxuriating at a lower bpm, ‘Lots Of Soulful Vocals’ dives into the world of disco with Preston himself contributing funky basslines and moments of guitar playing too. Pulling the poolside anthem together is some inspired use of sampling, with a male, then a female, voice telling of the power of House. “Well, House music is about fun, it’s about love, it’s about unity, togetherness” the sample begins.

The DJ/surfer has raced to the forefront of house fans’ minds since the release of the massive ‘Love You Better’ in April 2021. That single is closing in on 1m streams on Spotify alone and has been played on BBC Radio 1 as well as Australia’s foremost radio station Triple J. Alex has also been receiving excellent club feedback, with several DJ’s including Jax Jones, Mark Knight, Mistajam and Arielle Free spinning - and backing - him.

"I’ve been listening to a lot of old Soul records lately and I wanted to incorporate some of those vibes into a classic house groove. I felt that the melodic parts of the track should have a real eclectic feel and then be complimented by a chunky contemporary house groove!"

Antrea: Could be the name of a planet from a Sci-Fi movie. A world with bazaars and temples that are reminiscent of ancient human cultures, but with holograms and all sorts of wondrous spacecrafts hovering through the air. So Antrea is a great name for an EP that sounds as huge and epic as if it really was the soundtrack for this kind of Sci-Fi movie. Laconia features collaborations with fellow producers Cioz and Cook Strummer, as well as a special apparition by Sam’s paternal figure playing the Oud on Mirage. The tracks explore a diverse array of dispositions, from groovy up-warmers such as Mangata or Louna to more lively dancefloor aggregators such as Kamala Bani, on to the deeply polarizing, whirlwind synth dinger Guz or the more experimental self-evident Not Much To Say.

A novel detail makes an appearance on Je te vois, an acoustic electronic dance number with poetic lyrics tenderly sung in French for the first time. The artist’s romantic side also shows through the mystical elements interspersed throughout, from the spellbinding Encanto to the dreamy soundscapes of Atreyu, named after the famous German fantasy book character.

Thanks to a modest key riff and more cosmic effects, Aubade lends its meaning of “greeting in the sun” to the atmosphere, rounding off the release on an incandescent note.

Ludo delivers the quality vibes like always with an awesome track that is reminiscent of early 80s disco. 

The second part of the 'Hold On' remix pack is a reinterpretation of 'Piece Of Me' by Jarrad Gallo. As a Bay Area Native of San Jose, this DJ / producer is no stranger to the San Francisco house music scene.
