The Stranded FM mainstay and former Cultfarm resident has been a notable figure in the local music scene for years, and has shared his love of obscure synth gems and wild rhythms anywhere from SoHaSo nights to Dekmantel Selectors. For his entry into our podcast series, Luke delivers a meticulously crafted showcase of his deeper, more hypnotic side. There's much to discover here, from the beautiful blends to the little details in the selections. Throughout this mix, a snippet of guitar or a loosely played cymbal will catch your ear, while the rhythms underneath shift and shuffle uneasily, keeping you on your toes for the duration. Patricia Wolf is an artist based in Portland, Oregon, who describes herself as a musician / sound designer / field recordist / DJ. It’s in the latter capacity that she features here, having put together the first Bandcloud Guest Mix of 2022. We’ve been in conversation a lot over the past year and a half or so, all basically stemming from my playing her track ‘Sauvie Island Wilderness Area’ from the Room40 compilation Particle Count on my radio show. Ducks aplenty.

This mix is a wonderful selection of ~ambient~ pieces from the recent past, ranging from Fennesz and Olivia Block to KMRU and Hiro Kone, Astrid Sonne and Penelope Trappes to William Basinski. It ranges from raucous and overpowering to subtly gentle, with melancholic piano leading into a whirlwind of samples as the mix reaches its conclusion.

Jacob Long has been crafting Earthen Sea material since the early 2000s. He gradually graduated from limited-edition cassettes to releases on Ital's Lover's Rock and Nicolas Jaar's Other People imprints, before linking up with the evergreen label Kranky in 2017. His third album for Kranky, Ghost Poems, comes out next week. We celebrate with an hour of music built as spring emerges around him in Brooklyn, full of contrasts between light and decay.

On the flip, a “Sem Samba” (“without samba”) edit of Samba Brabo – laid-back and more minimal.
