Running Jisul Records (together with Nils Diezel and Ba Dum Tish's Alec Falconer) Walter has used the imprint to put out killer release after release with a unique and clean take on the tied lines between tech, soulful and deep house. This is a joint sound that you can find travelling not just throughout this hour and a half journey he has recorded for us, but at sets he has played all over Europe i.e. London's Pickle Factory or Offenbach's Robert Johnson club! So get your headphones on and prepare to bop your head to this masterclass in house music from the excellent Tiago Walter. The singular brand of house music that Taylor Freels produces as Liquid Earth is uniquely transatlantic, infusing the rhythmic sensibilities of London and Berlin with the sun-soaked serenity of his native California. Part '80s sleaze, part '90s deepness, part '00s wiggle, Freels makes dance music cocktails that pop like a twist of lime hitting seltzer. Melodic, crisp, and always refreshing, each track by the California-native is singularly recognisable as he refashions vintage sounds for the clubs of tomorrow.

Under his most recent alias, Liquid Earth, Freels has been pushing, as Resident Advisor put it, "tech house with a twist." His state-of-the-art analog grooves emerged from the ether fully formed in 2019 with some of the deepest basslines and crunchiest melodies out there. Freels' squigly take on contemporary house and techno always comes primed with a dose of California sunshine. 

Carrying on the legacy of storied California predecessors like Halo and Hipp-E, he's been swivelling heads and moving bodies with releases on labels at the vanguard of the underground, like Kalahari Oyster Cult and Is/Was sub label TerraFirm, collaborations with Tornado Wallace as Dinnervisions, and a remix of his starry-eyed, "Scope Zone" by Youandewan landed him notoriety among the scenesters alike. 

More than just a producer, Freels knows how to pack a punch behind the decks, moving from classic West Coast Breaks to UK tech house with aplomb and mastery. His bookings and podcasts have been piling up like hot cakes with best-in-class mixes for the likes of Honey Soundsystem, Butter Side Up and Faciendo and DJ appearances from Dimensions Festival to Panorama Bar.

As we welcome another talented artist to our family we asked Viken about the first part of a two part release and he told us...

"it's really important to understand that this EP is a series of pictures telling a story. Combining the names of all the tracks one gets this interesting and dreamy sentence,'On A Blue Road - A White Shadow - Feels The Winter'.To translate these pictures into music, I needed a very particular sound. Since I am a huge fan of Jazz music I took one of my favorite records, used a lot of samples and reworked them in my own way. From the technical aspect, I decided to reconnect with my first love: analog machines. I love working with sound textures. I stayed away from my laptop and all my VST/Plugins as I felt the need to compose these tracks in an unusual way: I wanted the sound to be really pure. That's the reason why this process was so essential for me. For me, this EP is the first one to sound like this".

This is the first of two releases from a deeply talented soul. A patient collage of house, jazz, acid squiggles and deep emotion. Played and loved all summer long by Lee Burridge at All Day I Dream, these tracks will stay with you through winter and into next summer.

Following up Swiss producer nuemp's Bug Of June EP released earlier this year on fellow Swiss producer Night Talk's AYM imprint, the two Basel, Switzerland-based producers recently met up in the studio and crafted their first collaborative single, "Binary Division".

Together on "Binary Divison", Night Talk and nuemp's symbiotic energy slowly builds, stirring warm, swelling drums pads into soft percussive layers along with an off-kilter synth line and a wistful melody, conjuring a quietly deep atmosphere reminiscent of walking through the snow at night.

Night Talk and nuemp's "Binary Division" will be released January 3, 2017 on AYM.
