Sing-along to the A-side and get fully funked on the flip. It’s a new 45 but with a classic feel; it offers an homage to old times, and it guarantees good times once that needle hits the groove.

Since the first Battle Of The Year (BOTY) took place in 1990, the annual breathtaking competition of international dance formations has become one of the biggest world championships of breakdance.To celebrate this years 25. Anniversary duly, the 2014 soundtrack compilation contains a fresh collection of international Breaks and Funk productions. 

This years highlights include new songs by Michal Menert & Break Science from the USA, Electrobreaks by Serenity out of Brazil as well as songs taken from the new solo albums by polish Power Breaks matadors DJ Pablo and DJ M@R. Next to exclusive contributions by the BOTY Soundtrack residents Esone, Fendaheads, Mr. Confuse, Jay-Roc n' Jakebeatz and DJ Nas'D, the album also contains songs by new discoveries such as the belgian Zamali, James Lotto from Turkey and the german Myniemo. Rock on!

Brooklyn's Breakdown Brass dropped yet another killer 45! They've unleashed an original juggernaut entitled "Harrow", a follow-up to their smash debut 45 "Monmouth b/w Next Episode" (Kept Records) and sophomore 45 "The Horseman b/w Mary Jane" (Mixto Music). Driving, dirty horns are punctuated by intense trombone and baritone sax solos - prepare your stank face.

The B-side "Nautilus (Hijacked)" is a dance-floor burner that pays homage to Bob James, whose track Nautilus has been heavily sampled by Slick Rick, Eric B & Rakim, Run-DMC, A Tribe Called Quest, Onyx, Wu Tang Clan, Big L, Pete Rock and about 300 others. Throw in some Herbie Mann/Beatnuts and you got yourself a hit!

The members of Breakdown Brass stay busy - touring and recording with Ikebe Shakedown, Antibalas, Lee Fields, Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, Monophonics and many others. Led by Nadav Nirenberg on trombone, their unique combination of heavy Afro-Funk with the sizzle of Balkan Brass has caught the eye of Gilles Peterson, NPR, BBC and more.

Sounds From The Soul Underground draws together tracks by some of the greatest contemporary acts from all over the globe and working within the genres of soul, funk, afrobeat, latin and jazz today. With a hard to find rarity from Ray Camacho & The Tear Drops, a DJ Format remix of a Speedometer single, brand new, previously unheard material from Nick Van Gelder, Jessica Lauren Four, and The Andy Tolman Cartel as well as a smattering of recent dance floor destroyers from established Freestyle acts and like minded artists and record labels across the globe, Sounds From The Soul Underground provides an eclectic snapshot of the magnificently healthy international underground music scene. 

Whilst the variety of genres included is varied in feel and styles, all the featured artists share a common love of, and are rooted in soulful black music and typify an organic approach to modern music making. 

Many of these tracks have become essential and reliable crowd pleasers in my DJ sets, from Brighton to Barcelona, Lausanne to New York, when open minded people hear these quality grooves it's always the same result, jam packed dance floors, happy faces and weary, tired legs come closing time. Massive thanks to all the contributing artists, labels, and the clubs, DJ's, promoters and radio shows right across the planet who continue to fly the flag for underground music made with heart, soul and simply for the love of the music.

Out of retirement for a brief moment to pay homage with an original cover track to the late Dennis Barton of Skylab2000, who sadly past away in February, 2017. Skylab2000 helped spread a distinctively West Coast style of electronic dance music that combined the Roland 303 synth lines of early acid house with breakbeats, melodic synths and touches of psychedelic trance. Skylab2000 tracks appeared in the DJ sets and on mix compilations from the likes of Sasha and Digweed, Carl Cox, Pete Tong, Keoki, Taylor and John Kelley, through such labels as Moonshine, Brainiak and Phatt Phunk.
As featured on Skylab2000's tribute album "Beyond the Stars," The original single by Simply Jeff titled "Sister Valentine" appears in courtesy of Abduction Productions 2019.
