Last year one of my dearest friends, Don, unexpectedly passed  from complications due to asthma. I was absolutely devasted as this was the first death to touch me so personally. I dedicated my following NYC tour to them and I am grateful to feel their presence when I deejay still. After working on this mix for months, I was unable to complete it. Til I went to a Teklife show and was moved to tears as I heard DJ Spinn play "Itz Not Rite" by DJ Rashad, one of the songs I selected for this mix. After finally finishing, the following day I get news that my friend Nefertiti "Pussy" Jackson also passed from complications due to asthma. I listened back to my mix and the first song is an Asmara remix of "God is A Woman," resonating even more as I thought about my preistess-like old friend.

To say I felt numb is an understatement. In a lot of ways I still can't fully process these feelings, but I continue to heal and honor my feelings of grief.

When I made this grieving mix last year, I did not expect it to so relevant to today. I was fixated and enraged by my friends' passing. Fighting for life and breath in a hospital unable to save them. I am thinking about all the people struggling to breathe through Covid infected lungs or under the crushing pressure of a police officers knee or through burning tear gas filled eyes and throats. I think about those struggling to breathe under insurmountable debt or debilitating governments. I invite you all to listen, feel, and hopefully process."
