Tried out a new genre! Haven't done Drum & Space before. This was made for the Pokemon Creative Collective Megamix. What's that? It's a collection of original tracks produced by artists in the Pokeremixing community, put together (and ruthlessly advertised) by AlmightyArceus. Usually the Megamix is for remixes only but I've been on an off streak on those as of late - you can tell my excitement when I heard an originals collective was in the works.

The theme for that was "fire", so I made a track depicting fire. The main focus of the track's interest was meter changes - the bar length is in constant shift, while the tempo maintains a steady 90 bpm.

ABOUT CALYCYCLE:

A homage to Calygon, a loop which I still believe to be my first good original.

At first this track wanted to be a full song. But as I kept making sections, it was becoming more and more clear that it was falling into the Seres trap of having zero cohesion whatsoever. So I said, "Screw it, let's do a loop instead". So I made the modulations throughout the track come back to the beginning.

Feel free to use this loop in a game or whatever as long as you give credit :)

Probably the song I sang most during my university career as an acoustic-toting Seth Cohen look-alike, roaming the dorm hallways, fuelled by copious amounts of cheap beer, hoping that maybe one day, some pretty girl would hear my emo lullabies and come calling after me.  

But mostly I just got drunk and kept people up.  

All joking aside, this is one of my all-time favourite songs, by one of my all-time favourite bands.  

It's a surreal and humbling experience being able to tinker with the acapella from a song I've heard literally hundreds - maybe even thousands - of times.  

Chris' voice is a goddamn national treasure, and I can only hope I did it justice in my reimagining of this iconic emo anthem.
