It’s finally here!  Mine and Robert Voxx’s six song collaborative EP, “Collisions” is out now, available everywhere! 

We poured everything into this EP, each going through myriad personal struggles and tragedies along the way.  

I made the music; Rob did the vocals and lyrics, but—and here’s where the name comes from—it was during the collision of our two separate lives and all we had going on in them respectively, that really made this EP so special.

And even though at times it honestly felt like we probably wouldn’t ever finish this thing (almost threw in the towel on a number of occasions), thankfully whenever one of us was not doing so well, the other one was, so we were always able to pull one another back up onto the proverbial horse whenever we needed to.  

It really was a perfect balancing act that could’ve gone wrong so many times if things were only a little bit different.  

But that wasn’t the case.  Things went exactly right, and now we can share these six songs with you all.  

Thanks to everyone who stuck it out with us while working on this thing—I know it wasn’t always easy.

And thank you to the fans who’ve waited so long for me to put out new music.  You’re going to be sick of me by the end of 2025, I promise you that 😉. 

And to all those collisions in life that make it worth living, this is for you.

Collisions EP

This is the first single from mine and Robert Voxx’s upcoming “Collisions” EP.  

This song was an incredible journey for both of us.  

Robert wrote the lyrics as essentially a letter to his late brother, who he tragically lost to suicide.

Channelling all of his grief; all of his sadness; all of his anger…eventually Robert reached a place of acceptance and forgiveness, coming to terms with this immense tragedy, finally being able to move on; finally being able to forgive his brother for what he did.  

In composing/producing this track, I wanted to try and mirror the journey of Robert’s lyrics—as well as his actual experience—doing my best to try and capture the emotional arc he took while dealing with such an unbelievable tragedy.  

And although initially the song is about confusion, grief and anger, ultimately, it becomes a song about hope and resilience; about the human capacity for healing; about overcoming even the most terrible of circumstances.

Life goes on whether we like it or not, and the only way to overcome something that has broken your heart is to keep moving forward.  Things will—and always do—eventually get better.

Future Magic & Robert Voxx - Hindsight

What started out as an acoustic song I wrote in Japanese while living in Japan back in 2008, eventually got resurrected—after I found the acoustic guitar riff I recorded on an old standalone Zoom HDD 16 track recording device—and turned into what would eventually become “Crosswinds”, the third release from mine & Robert Voxx’s upcoming EP “Collisions”. 

I sent Robert the instrumental along with a brief explanation about what the Japanese lyrics I had originally wrote were trying to convey (I didn’t want to do a direct line-by-line translation, as that would have removed any interpretive creativity on Rob’s part) and after a few Facetime writing sessions—and an embarrassing number of drop overhauls on my part…I think I reworked it at least 6 or 7 times—we finally came up with what ended up being one of my favourite tracks of the entire EP.  

Super happy to get to share this with one with you all.

Future Magic & Robert Voxx - Crosswinds

This track means a lot to me personally, as I came up with part of the instrumental while fairly deep in alcohol addiction, and then, came back and finished it during my subsequent non-abstinence/medicine-based recovery using The Sinclair Method—aka targeted Naltrexone treatment—for alcohol use disorder (I have a whole post on Instagram that goes into all of this, but feel free to DM if you want to learn more). 

Anyway, Rob didn’t know about any of this at the time—although I’m sure he knew something was going on—when I sent him the instrumental, yet somehow he wrote lyrics that really hit home for me and what I was going through (they were so moving in fact that I ended up going back into the track and writing a completely new breakdown and drop).  

But I digress.  

Life is filled with high points and low points; struggles and triumphs; lightness and darkness. 

But music is there to help you through all of it, just like this song did for me.

Chemicals

Future Magic & Robert Voxx - Chemicals

This song went through so many different versions before I finally was able to come up with something that adequately matched Rob’s vocals.  I really wanted to channel some big 80s stadium rock vibes on this while still keeping it in line with the overall sonic vibe of the EP.  Really happy with how it turned out. One of my favorite songs on the EP.

Typhoon

Future Magic & Robert Voxx - Typhoon

This was the first track Rob and I made together back when started this whole “Collisions” EP project.  I had this instrumental I’d been sitting on for a bit and Rob was more or less ready to quit making music (or at least that’s how he felt sometimes; I doubt he’d ever really have quit lol), so after tricking him into getting back in the studio by asking him to sing some covers for me, I eventually helped him get his groove back (wasn’t exactly hard, dude just needed the tiniest of pushes).  Next thing I knew he was asking me for instrumentals, and the rest is history. 

We didn’t know then we’d end up making 6 songs together when we started out of course, but once we got going it became pretty obvious we’d at least be doing an EP of some kind.  

You never know where things will take you.
