lately your enthusiasm’s starting to wane
You’ve been trying so hard to re-ignite that fire in your belly
lately your resolve, it’s turning into jelly 
You've been trying to be the best that you can be
but maybe you’ve been barking up the wrong tree
if your Spidey sense starts to tingle, maybe it’s a sign 
that you should open up the curtains and let in some sunshine
Sometimes you need to listen to your inner voice
Every morning that you wake up you still have a choice 
You’ve been swinging for a home run, but you can’t even seem to get to first base
You feel stuck like a rat in a race, like one of those monkey’s they shot into outer space
There’s days when it feels like you’re hanging by the end of your rope
And you struggling so hard to find a solution so you can cope
if your Spidey sense starts to tingle, maybe it’s a sign 
that you should open up the curtains and let in some sunshine
Sometimes you need to listen to your inner voice

You try to make it through each day and sometimes you feel like the missing link
White knuckling your way through all the changes, trying not to be the first to blink
People doing things fast with AI that you're sure would take you several weeks
But you swear you’re going keep doing things the old-fashioned way with your luddite techniques
Your life is like a river that’s constantly flowing, 
You get swept along by the current You’re never sure where it’s going
Sometimes it feels like you’re playing a game of musical chairs
You’re afraid that when the music stops, you’ll be the one whose left standing there

This song began with Stephen, who recorded it on his acoustic guitar and bass to a programmed drum track a few months ago. We were all thrilled to work on it, even though it sat in BandLab as a project for almost a month before Stephen separated the tracks, thus allowing us to trickle in our parts. JJ was first to jump on it, because he could before the tracks were separated, as his part is completely his idea. He added the organ that really set up the entire sound of both dominant sections of the song. 
  Ken was first up to the project once the tracks were replaceable, making the wild, driving beat his own. Inspired by both JPJ and Michael Ivins, Josh laid down his bass line, trying to match Ken's energy. Last, but not least, Mark jumped in with the rumbling timpani. He also added the flavorful harmonica, and unique jaw harp you hear throughout, as well. 
  At that point, Stephen also got the idea to add the hambone percussion at the very end of the song, which we all consider a treat, and after showing us how it's done, Mark volunteered his percussion skills to give it a go. Stephen wasn't done with it, though, and still had some magic to sprinkle. He went in and added the howling electric guitar you hear prominently in the second main section. Also, he added the tempting intro with his acoustic guitar and electric mandolin that looks like a Telecaster guitar. 
  Once it was in the bag, we thought it appropriate for our master mixer Stephen to put it to bed, which he did in his always expert manner. Mark did help with the production, though, as he's very good with editing and spotting mistakes that need to be corrected.
  This is a gift from Stephen to all of us, and you, too. It took a lot of teamwork to make the dream work, as always for Eclectic Collective. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

The people I follow know that sooner or later I'll visit their SC page to listen to their compositions. It's a ritual I do 4-5 times a year. And when I say listen... I mean really listen.

I do it because I like certain styles. Other times it's the technique. Other times it's the composition. Other times... simply to learn.
The truth is that music, as an element of communication, tells me a lot about the creator's intention, how it interprets certain themes, and even conveys a certain profile of the composer himself.

It's hard to explain, but it's as I say.

This composition is introspective and brings together some of my favorite styles, such as melodic, rock, and electronic.

I named it this because it corresponds to a period when my listening became more pronounced and I didn't have anyone to listen to me at the time.

It's certainly a strange composition, especially because of certain percussion sections (understood as self-criticism).

Steady

Many years ago I was in a bar out in the Mid West of the US and I fight broke out... It was weird coz it seemed like I was watching a real life film... lot of over weight 'chaps' swinging fists and kicking out like donkeys.  a very funny thing to behold. Anyway I wrote this track and am working on an album to go with it.  'The Buckled Wheel Inn'.

I'VE BEEN UP (Lyrics)

In my description for my last personal composition, Painted In Pastels, I talked about a certain harmonic language or style that flowered in the late sixties, early seventies. I mentioned Sondheim and his work, especially from the same said time. This to me is a towering achievement of what I was talking about. I was just floored digging into the music. The better a musician I become the more this piece impresses me.
