Javi Frias Loves To Boogie

Next up in the mix series all the way from Spain we have Javi Frias!! Javi is a well respected DJ and producer from the Disco and House scene. He began collecting and playing records as a young ‘soul boy' at the end of the nineties in Madrid, his hometown, and since then he has not stopped traveling to share his music through many venues, clubs and festivals worldwide. New York, Cairo, London, Mexico City, Paris, Barcelona, Washington DC, Amsterdam or Berlin are just some of the places he has had the opportunity to carry out his incendiary, eclectic and danceable sets full of disco, boogie, funk, house and soulful sounds.

In the past few years he has begun to make noise at international level thanks to his edits and reworks, published a handful of EPs and singles on influential labels like Street Edits, Tropical Disco Records, Giant Cuts, Midnight Riot, Boogie Café and Bons Records. His music is played and charted regularly by top DJs such Danny Krivit, Detroit Swindle, Red Greg, Horse Meat Disco, Jacques Renault, Rahaan, Marcel Vogel, Folamour, Get Down Edits, Frank Booker and more...

In 2017 he started his own label Night Shift Records, devoted to edits and reworks of disco and house, where he has released his own productions and occasionally the work of other fellow producers. He's also part of the mysterious Disco Pocho label, focused on the soul and funk side of the disco edit, where he has already released a couple of 7”.

For this mix Javi does what he does best, so strap in for a solid 90 mins of uplifting funky edits mixed with pin point precision, turn it up!

Aroop Roy is a producer, musician and label head, who joins the dots between electronic music and borderless organic sounds. From house, disco and techno to jazz, funk and Afrobeat, he has enjoyed universal acclaim as a producer and DJ.

Like his productions, his sets are full of personality and style and have earned him a growing reputation as a uniquely gifted DJ. In 2022, he closed We Out Here Festival with Mr Scruff who described Aroop as a 'ridiculously skilled selector, musically able to move in any direction with ease'. We were fortunate enough to witness this magic, so it's with great pleasure we welcome him to the series. Enjoy

An incredible day all ways up! The Super Weird Sunset in the morning set the tone perfectly with well-being and good vibes music as the artists also set up for the day. Playwright Daisy Eris Campbell ('Cosmic Trigger')and author John Higgs ('Stranger Than We Can Imagine: Making Sense Of The Twentieth Century' and 'The KLF: Chaos, Magic And The Band Who Burned A Million Pounds') fascinated us during the talks, before Stella Grundy powerfully performed a section of her one-woman production 'The Rise And Fall Of A Northern Star', whilst poet JB Barrington well and truly put a smile on our faces with his Salford wit and acute observation.

Then it was Howard Marks. The warmth towards him was something else, the area packed to capacity with queueing around the corner the entrance to the Estuary Stage. A true countercultural icon of our times - the respect was tangible.

A potent line-up of DJ's followed - Tomlin of the Jam MC's, Luxxury over from LA, and a B2B with Derek Kaye and Peza, as the Estuary grooved into the 2nd half of the Happening

Blind Arcade and the Super Weird Society hit the ball out of the court big style - a phenomenal first appearance complete with live musicians. Huge thanks to Black Grape's backing band, who Kermit had hijacked for the event.

Then I was on for the finale, and what a climax it turned out to be. The stage was invaded at the end and when I looked to my side, appearing next to me, in a puff of smoke it seemed, was Back To Basics mainman and UK club legend Dave Beer, who turned to me, amidst the wonderful chaos of the moment and exclaimed 'this is seminal'.

Aroop's eclectic productions have become a mainstay for DJs  across scenes and generations, with Gilles Peterson calling him 'a brilliant producer, who never fails'. In recent years, he has been high in demand as a remixer, working for both underground and major labels. 

Like his productions, his sets are full of personality and style and have earned him a reputation as a uniquely gifted DJ. In 2022, his warmup for Mr Scruff at We Out Here Festival impressed the legendary UK selector so much, that he invited him to stay on the decks to close the festival back-to-back, describing Aroop as a 'ridiculously skilled selector, musically able to move in any direction with ease'.

In 2023, Aroop is enjoying huge momentum, causing wild scenes with his sets at Fabric, Printworks, Defected Croatia, Hi Ibiza and Gilles Peterson's Worldwide and We Out Here festivals. 


An eclectic digger and tastemaker, he has recorded guest mixes for the likes of Gilles Peterson, Freerange Records,  CO-OP,  Jazz FM and BBC 6 Music's Craig Charles Funk & Soul show.


Aroop's label Vive La Musique has focussed on quality over quantity, with reissues and reworks of rare eclectic sounds from around the world from Caribbean zouk and Congolese Rumba to French jazz-fusion and South soul. All releases have been celebrated by major tastemakers across the scene with the latest offering "In the Fast Lane" receiving rave reviews for uncovering the historical connections between french virtuoso Jean-Luc Ponty and the Detroit techno movement.
