This song was part of a recent recording session at Rural Culture, engineered by Jesus of Jesus Audio Services (http://www.jesusaudio.org). The music was recorded by a single person playing all the instruments, overdubbing one over the other. The session for the entire EP, including tracking, mixing and mastering, was just 2 days.

Multitrack Recording at Rural Culture - Colonial Dispute


"Meltdown" was monophonically recorded entirely live on cassette tape in an ugly building affectionately known as "The Toilet of Alienation" in 2011. 

It was engineered by Jesus Agnew and Stratos Pissy using the mobile analog recording rig of FWRL Records. 

Analogly remastered in 2015 by Jesus Agnew at Magnetic Fidelity using vacuum tube equipment and 1/4" analog tape. 

Each record was individually cut by Jesus Agnew on a vintage disk cutting lathe, directly from the 1/4" analog master tape. An original monophonic cutterhead from the 1930's was used during this process, along with vintage electronics, to impart the desired tone. The entire signal path from the original recording to the final product is guaranteed to be 100% analog. The audio signal has been massaged through 46 vacuum tubes and highly saturated tape during the production of this album. 

Each cover is 100% analog, hand painted by Sabine Steldinger using acrylic colors and a pinch of volcanic lava dust.

This is a sample from a live recording session at the Rural Culture Studios (http://www.fwrl.org), engineered by Jesus (http://www.jesusaudio.org). The band performed their entire album live, in the exact way they want it to be released. There was no editing or messing around. The instruments were recorded using 6 microphones. The signals from the 6 microphones were live-mixed down to stereo, and the stereo signal was routed directly to the mastering suite, where the album was live-mastered, and recorded directly onto the final analog master tape. No post-processing of any kind. No multitrack tapes. The master tape is a first-generation recording.

This recording technique minimizes generation loss from recording first on to multitrack tape, then onto the stereo mixdown tape, and finally on to the master tape. With the traditional recording methodology, the released album is a fourth generation recording at best. With the direct-to-master technique that Jesus specializes on, the released album can be a second generation recording, maintaining all the subtle nuances of the original audio signal while keeping noise and tape hiss to an absolute minimum. 

What's more, this technique takes a lot less time since everything is already mixed and mastered by the time the recording session is over.
