Wild Sanctuary is a regular show on @clydebuiltradio which broadcast every 4 weeks from July 2020 to November 2022. From 2023 the show broadcasts every two months starting February 2023.

It provides a platform for me to be able to air the vast and ever increasing number of more downtempo records that I have in my collection.

The show deliberately avoids playing the more upbeat music I would normally play in clubs, mixes, etc (you can find plenty of these sorts of mixes of mine elsewhere on my soundcloud) and so provides a sort of balance in what I put out there and a wider dimension to what I can share with you.

This took less than 30 mins and most of that was getting warp-markers in place before doing slight reshuffle and removing some unwanted sections. No other instruments added. I've always wanted to play this in a club but there's a section in the middle I just don't like so removed it. Enjoy :)

Recording of my set at Club Cosmos in Leeds....a special place with a special vibe in an old re-purposed mill....super chilled with people lying around on beanbags, tons of dry ice and lovely kaleidoscopic oil slide projections on every wall. Space IS the place!

Oh and set was recorded using vinyl, USB and Ableton Live...a real mish mash of formats!

The brief was "psych"...but this is definitely my own take on that.
It's not all guitar music...but most of it is...and even the ones you might categorise as "electronic music" come from an out there and experimental sensibility. Hope you enjoy it.

It's certainly been a very strange and unpleasant year, finishing on an extremely sour note. However, some very, very wonderful and beautiful music has been released despite this, helping elevate one's spirit above the noise and dismal situation our planet is facing.

I didn't celebrate new year (a pint with my pal was it)...but earlier in the evening I made myself record this 2.5 hour mix of some of my favourite ambient and downtempo music of the year.

It was a joy to play the warm up set at Optimo's New Year's Day party in The Berkeley Suite earlier this month. The night started at 8pm (until 4am...so a long night) and the room took a while to get busy so I felt it was completely acceptable to veer into the stranger atmospheric territories of my record collection. By half an hour or so in, people had started arriving and dancing so things pick up around halfway through but I still keep the tempo down for a leisurely build. WrongParty! - Radio Buena Vida 19.06.24

If you missed the original Secret Circuit album ("Green Mirror" 2xLP) which came out last year, it's been lauded as Eddie Ruscha's finest work and has been one of the label's best sellers (and some even saying the label's "best release"). 
To mark a year since its release 4 remixers were asked to re-interpret tracks from the album. As one would expect with original source material that ranges from minimal and space-y tech to properly drifting ambience, the pool of remixers (and the resultant remixes) are equally diverse. 
First up is Glasgow-based tropical traveller Kusht who turns the album's opening track "Undenying" into a trippy slo-mo chugfest. This is followed by Khidja's Andrei Rusu who takes on "Light On The Sand" which comes out transformed into a polyrhythmic Steve Reich-ian epic of stuttering synths and tuned percussion. The Froid Dub remix is as dubby and lo-fi as you'd expect from these two French dub-wave geniuses...and closing up is veteran Switzerland-based experimentalist Michal Turtle whose version takes things in a strange but familiarly emotive direction.
Suffice to say, we love them all and hope you do too!

Just a little warm-up mini-mix.

I played these tracks from 8pm-8.30pm before Tony Morris came on. I did play a longer set after him too, but the DJ booth was up in a pulpit in the corner of the room, had no monitor and the sound sounded really bassy from up there so although I got compliments for the music, it's far from a perfect mix with several shonky mixes and some transitions that just go on for far too long, so that part is being scrapped, alas. Hope you like this little brief taster.

Following on from last years's "Mondo Organico" compilation, the latest Invisible Inc mini-compilation "Mondo Ritmo", as its title suggests, sets its sights firmly on rhythm and percussion.
Featuring a global array of artists hailing from Argentina to Senegal and everywhere inbetween, the influences and styles on display include latin, afro, dub, dancehall, experimental, acid and more and are guaranteed to expand your mind and move your body.
Initially this EP was intended to be Dancefloor Detonators Vol. 3 but things are fluid at INVINC HQ and the EP seemed to mutate as it grew!
However, lacking in dancefloor killers this EP most certainly is not. Proven and tested dancefloor bombs are Mytron & Balam's opening track "Cabasa Loca" which label boss GK Machine has been spinning at his Wrong Party nights and elsewhere for the last 6 months or so, resulting in track ID requests on several occasions...and the house/dancehall hybrid floor filler "Wicked Can't Run" by LA producer Tom Chasteen (Exist Dance/Dub Club) featuring legendary Jamaican DJ and toaster U Brown, and mixed by equally legendary producer/keyboardist David Harrow who first came to our attention through his regular keyboard contributions to all things On-U Sound related in the 1980s.
The rest of the tracks may not be peak time bangers but they are sure to please the more esoteric and adventurous dancefloors out there....it's an honour to have on board Calypso Records head honcho Thomass Jackson, Thomash (Voodoohop) and Gats (Suçuarana / Curuba) who together as Changa Boys bring in Senegalese drummer Ndiaxo dal Jaam, and finally the little-known Machine and percussionist Congo Caveman.

"This is not really a “dj” mix…the styles are too diverse to make any coherent segueing possible except on a couple of occasions, with music ranging from the dark melancholic experimentalism of Einstürzende Neubauten to the uplifting polyrhythmic songs of Zawose Queens…and a multitude of styles in between. 

In my opinion a wide range of styles fits the purpose of radio better than a DJ mix…but, in truth, I’m probably just finding an excuse to justify the many moods I’m experiencing lately. And I bought a new A9 mixer recently which allows for an external effects send so I plugged in my Space Echo pedal which I usually use with live shows and tried to blend the unblendable behind a wash of delays and feedback! DJ, label manager, music producer and graphic designer Gordon Mackinnon aka GK Machine has been spinning records to the public since the early '90s and has been operating Invisible Inc record label since 2014.

His DJ sets vary wildly to suit the setting; from exotic space oddities and blissed out chillwave at one end to sleazy disco bombs and fuel-injected floor fillers at the other, enchanting dreamers, groovers, heavyweight rockers and midnight ravers alike.

A diverse producer, GK Machine has released music for labels such as Hoga Nord, Sonic Cathedral, Tepeme Musica, Bamboo Shows, Huntleys & Palmers, Paradise Palms and of course his own Invisible Inc under numerous aliases including The Poncho Brothers, Immaculate Rivombo, Strange Culture, Legion Of Light, The Mamba, Gamma Knife and Delta Girls plus collaboratively as the ethno-space-dub-gamelan project Komodo Kolektif.

It’s been a good few years since we've seen a full release from Sordid Sound System aka Stuart Evans on Invisible Inc and the wait is very worth it - it’s a most welcome return.
It's possibly even some of Evans’ best work and so it’s a pleasure to have him back on board the good ship Inc.  
With the ten year anniversary of Invisible Inc coming in May it seems very fitting to include something by Sordid Sound System amongst the flurry of releases coming out in the run-up to that occasion.
Remarkably, this music is even harder to pigeon-hole than usual...even for Stu, who’s known for his raw, analogue, live takes that veer between dub and post-kraut, this is definitely quite "different": part surf acid, part dub, part psych-exotica, part motorik...and that's just the A-side. The B-side leans more towards ambience but of the oddball experimental soundtrack variety...a thoroughly enjoyable ride.
Enjoy the trip.

The original mix I did was completely different and I wasn't 100% keen on it and decided to re-record the whole thing which involved shuffling around the order of the tracks, chop out some tracks, add new tracks until the final result was completely different from the original.

I just had a listen to it and although most of the tracks that are in this prototype mix DO appear in the final version this little section is the entire beginning of the mix, all recorded from vinyl and all four tracks dropped from the final version.

But wow, some lovely tracks....shame to have lost them.....so here they are.

Such a great party and vibe.....run by some very nice people.....I heartily recommend to anyone passing through SF!!

Though normally I prefer vinyl, for this live mix, I was just using my laptop and Ableton plus a few effects plug-ins....and because the interface I was given only had 2 outputs I wasn't able to do any cueing over the headphones which is why every so often you'll hear tracks coming in and then leaving again and something else coming instead, because only once hearing what was coming in through the monitors would I realise the tracks maybe didn't work so well and quickly tried to correct things. So apologies for the noisy, messy, discordant sections!! Regardless, fun was had. I hope you enjoy this recording too.

Best of 2018 - Part 1: "20 Fireside Favourites"

Finally managed to record this due to the festive period and new year being waaaaay too busy.

So my 'Best of...' selections this year (or last year, I should say) were just going to be new music from 2018, which I wanted to divide into two parts - downtempo and uptempo. I then decided with there being so many great reissues and reissue compilations that I should also do a 3rd part separately seeng as reissues don't really count as music from 2018 do they? Anyway, I did manage part 1 and part 3 before New Year and now finally I can show you the missing part - part 2.

Originally when I was selecting records I had about 60 or so tracks. Editing it down to 20 was not only difficult but also rather random, if I'm honest. From those 60 I reluctantly chopped out a few and cobbled together a select few that I thought would work. Nevertheless, because of the nature of the mix (i.e., limiting myself to only tracks from 2018), I probably would never mix any of the two tracks together the way I have done so in some places it may sound incoherent. All from vinyl, of course.

In any case all of these are tracks I totally love and have played in a club or for a dancefloor at some stage this year. I mean last year.

It features (relative) newcomers Calypso Records with a couple of amazing tracks by Colossio and Inigo Vontier, Optimo Music, always on form, are represented by Feon and Sex Judas & Ricky, a couple of Cosmo Vitelli edits for Edit Service and likewise two of my own Invisible Inc cuts by Secret Circuit and Sordid Sound System. The genius that is Chris Carter appears twice too.

We also find Red Axes, Simple Symmetry, Umeko Ando (remixed by Andi Otto), Zmatsutsi, HLM38, Thomas Von Party, Yasuaki Shimizu (remixed by Kuniyuki Takahashi), River Yarra, Cleveland and Sascha Funke.

The only downside is that I couldn't fit a whole heap of amazing other tunes in, including Uwul Massa, Michal Turtle, James Holden, Otto, DJ Normal 4, Wolfgang Tillmans (remixed by Whatever/Whatever), Alek Lee, Autarkic, Milord, Sharif Laffrey and many, many more.

Being a huge fan of Exist Dance pretty much since its inception in 1991, I was lucky enough to receive a promotional parcel from them in 2001 with around 20 records in it and promptly set about doing a mix with some of their (at that time) later, less familiar tracks.

It was a pleasure to be asked to play at the Humana Familia (@humanafamilia) presents Voodoo Plateau at Kelburn Garden Party this year. Humana Familia's @neil-templar and I shared the stage up high on the Beech Plateau overlooking the gorge from 3pm to 7pm. Here's the first 40 minutes of music, which is just me. It's recorded in mono while we waited for some audio gear to arrive after which point we swapped connections and continued to record in stereo. The second half, which comprises the majority of our set (2.5 hours) will be coming soon!! Enjoy
