Thunderdome Albums 1992 - 2012

Het eerste grote evenement georganiseerd door ID&T was The Final Exam op 19 juni 1992 in de Brabanthallen in 's-Hertogenbosch en 20 juni 1992 in de Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. De organisatie deed haar inspiratie op bij onder andere de evenementen van Multigroove. De eerste Thunderdome vond plaats op 3 oktober 1992 in Heerenveen. Thunderdome groeide midden jaren 90 al snel uit tot een van de bekendste rave-evenementen en het bekendste hardcore-evenement van Europa. Vanaf 1993 werd Thunderdome ook in Duitsland, Italië, Australië, België, Frankrijk, Zwitserland en Spanje gehouden. Dit waren voornamelijk de zogenaamde "on-tourparty's". Later werden er in vele Europese landen Thunderdome-evenementen gehouden.

Thunderdome begon met vier dj's, namelijk DJ Dano (Daniël Leeflang), DJ The Prophet (Dov Elkabas), DJ Gizmo (Ferry Salee) en DJ Buzz Fuzz (Mark Vos), ook wel bekend als The Dreamteam. Dano, The Prophet & Buzz Fuzz vormden reeds het "Multigrooves" Dreamteam. ID&T voegde daar Gizmo aan toe. Later draaiden of verzorgden onder meer de volgende artiesten optredens op Thunderdome: Neophyte (Jeroen Streunding), Angerfist (Danny Masseling), DJ Panic, Darkraver (Steve Sweet), 3 Steps Ahead (Peter-Paul Pigmans), DJ Dana (Dana van Dreven), DJ Korsakoff, DJ Promo, Bass D & King Matthew en Ruffneck.

Door het succes van Thunderdome ontstonden ook andere hardcorefeesten, zoals Hellraiser, A Nightmare in Rotterdam, Masters of Hardcore en Hellbound.

Naast de verschillende feesten werden ook tientallen cd's uitgebracht door Thunderdome. Ben Liebrand was degene die de kenmerkende hoezen ontwierp voor deze Thunderdome CD-serie, als ook de 3d-animaties voor de tv-reclames.

Het Thunderdome-evenement werd vooral in de jaren 90 gehouden maar vond tot eind 2012 nog steeds jaarlijks plaats in onder andere de Utrechtse Jaarbeurshallen en werd door een dochteronderneming van ID&T georganiseerd. Bezoekers in het bezit van een Thunderdometattoo (de Wizard of het geschreven Thunderdomelogo) hadden gratis toegang tot deze feesten.

In december 2012 zou de allerlaatste Thunderdome worden georganiseerd in de Amsterdam RAI. Desondanks vond in 2017 weer een editie plaats en werd er ook in 2019 een editie georganiseerd.

Thunderdome is a famous concept in hardcore techno and gabber music that was mainly used for a series of parties and CD-albums. It was organized by the Dutch entertainment company ID&T. The first party was organized in 1992 and the party held in December 2012 was advertised as being the end of Thunderdome. However, after the 2012 event, the party was brought back in 2017 for the 25th anniversary with a 2019 edition announced the following year.

History
Before the Thunderdome concept was started, ID&T organized a big rave called The Final Exam, that was held on 20 June 1992. This was the first attempt to bring hardcore and gabber to a wide audience and the first event organized by ID&T, who would later go on to organize other big dance music events such as Tomorrowland, Mysteryland, and Sensation White, and Black. Later in 1992, they organized the first Thunderdome party, which was simply titled The Thunder Dome, which was held on 3 October 1992 in Heerenveen.

In 1993, ID&T / Arcade Records also started a Thunderdome compilation CD-series with popular gabber music. ID&T also sold other kinds of merchandise such as T-shirts, bomber-jackets, caps and even an energy drink (Thundertaste). The Thunderdome concept was considered important to the popularization and spreading of gabber music during the 1990s. Though it was the biggest and most popular concept in the scene through most of the 1990s, that title is now being rivaled by other events, such as the ones organized by Masters of Hardcore.

In late 1999 ID&T took a break from the Thunderdome concept and stopped producing the parties and CDs. The break lasted until 2001, when they resumed throwing parties and producing CDs. After the restart, one or two parties each year were held. In 2002, the concept for the party was the 10th anniversary of Thunderdome. A CD that was recorded live at the party and an anniversary DVD were released, both entitled Thunderdome: a Decade. In 2007, the 3-CD set XV: 15 Years Of Thunderdome was released in celebration of Thunderdome's 15th anniversary.

For this mix I chose for some more slow and much older tunes and some personal favourites. A lot of them i actually never play in sets (Just in my private listening sessions at home and such)
I personally think these tunes define the very essence of what hardcore represents, as this beautiful music is not simply just some FAST noise. It actually has a SOUL!

Put this mix on from start to finish without interruption and let me take you onto a JOURNEY. At the end of the mix you will understand my love for this music AND why diversity makes this music so great and needed!

Some tunes sometimes just don't fit in my sets, but i felt like bringing back some of these tunes in this special mix to reflect the vibe and possibilities of that era and music style. The era when rules where...non existent.

I have added some extra information behind the tunes where needed, like for instance the alias or version information. Just for those who are curious for knowledge ;)

I hope this little mix takes you back to those days again, and put a smile on your face at the same time.
