Gabourey is the more of a rebirth than a reunion. When they first formed a band called KokeForTheKids back in the Myspace-Years, Jakob Engel and Henrik Demcker made a whole album of demos just to dissolve into nothingness over their own Yoko Ono. Years later, their musical and personal relationships rekindled, but they had grown up. Their tastes, inspirations and ideas of music had evolved. Jakob had reconnected with his time in South Africa, as well as his love for Reggae, Jazz and Kwaito. Henrik had developed his approach to Pop music while trying hard to find his way into RnB and Soul Music. In a creative rush, they threw their ideas at each other. The result is a blueprint, Gabourey is the imagination of a house. Over the past year they have recorded an album's worth of songs that have been mixed by Sebastian Muxfeld of 1000 Robota and mastered by Carl Hoffmann of Niedervolt Houdini.
