9th edition of a legendary Zeitgeist compilation. The series is our greeting and a farewell to good old days and long nights spent in one of the most famous places in Berlin — Bar25. Zeitgeist Vol. 9 is a way to define our sound, our future and our way which reflects the choice of artists and tracks.

The compilation is a mix of exclusive works only by some of our regulars and new faces for the label. We decided to stretch out the fun and split the record into two parts. Compilation part 1 features She Knows, blue Dietrich, Tuba Twooz, Urmet K, David Hasert, Diode Eins ft. Elenora with part 2 coming soon to bring more joy to your ears and mind.

Sabo’s record label Sol Selectas drops an enchanting Afro house EP by ARKADYAN, which also features remixes by Safar (FR) and Manoo.

ARKADYAN are a talented trio who have previously featured their tribal rhythms and ancestral instruments on other imprints ranging from Cosmic Awakenings to Madorasindahouse Records, and their music has been popular with DJs such as Black Coffee, Bedouin, Satori, Blond:ish and many others of equal note.

Safar (FR) is a French artist who recently debuted on Sol Selectas with a track on the label’s Summer Sol VII compilation with a scorching hot vibe, and this remix once again shows off his talents.

Manoo is from the city of Lyon in France and he is well-known for his productions on Innervisions, Compost and Classic Music Company. His style is a jazzy blend with deep atmosphere and groovy basslines.

“Tulila” is the solo original on the release and it features the vocals of Moroccan artist Radouan Naim who also played the guembri instrument that’s used in the track. The lyrics are sung in the Berber language and are accompanied by tense pads, vibrant percussion and dramatic chords.

Safar (FR) provides a refined remix that’s true to the original with its chopped-up vocals and flowing tribal rhythms that are both crisp and hypnotic.

Closing out the release is the remix by Manoo that adds a new bassline with extra energy while also drawing attention to the percussion to focus on the tribal rhythms of the congas and other percussion.

The artwork by Helia Jamali depicts the golden spiral of life & the harmonic dance of the universe.

Returning to Proton Music with another brand-new track, Pole Folder voyages across the "Serengeti". Remixes come from UK and Egyptian artists.

An iconic figure, Pole Folder has been at the vanguard of underground dance music for two decades after a 24-carat 2001 debut for Bedrock Records followed by 2005's "Zero Gold" album. With 300 production credits to his name and his successful Reworck imprint, the Belgian was an early fixture on the Proton Music roster with his "Protected" and "Radio 101" EPs between 2006 and 2008. A decade-long hiatus then saw "A Glimpse into the Past" released in 2018 with remixes from Retza and Funkform. Now returning, "Serengeti" is a wonderfully atmospheric offering, with its thunderstorm opening and brooding pads. Building smoothly, offbeat hats provide metronomic precision as a glissando lead meanders gracefully across the top. Effected vocal cuts add further depth alongside a grooved bassline and heavy beat as Pole Folder's inspiring production work hits the heights in the third movement to mesmerising effect.

Striving to achieve "the perfect unity" of "diversified beat, sounds, rhythms and melodies into one Fulltone", the Egyptian has more than met his stated aim with a century of production credits for the likes of Kindisch, KATERMUKKE and Pablo Bolivar's Seven Villas, A welcome Proton Music debutant after a remix of Lanvary's "Akyoomen" for Particles in November 2017, the Fulltone reworking of "Serengeti" is a beautifully immaculate affair that delights with its tribal percussive hits and rolling groove. Subtle atmospheric touches can be heard throughout as water trickles and wind effects sweep across the sonic landscape. Smooth keys shimmer like water droplets as Fulltone's additional production material takes the original in a new and vibrant direction, while Pole Folder's sounds resonate throughout to anchor the remix within the Belgian's overarching narrative. The result is a gloriously creative and mature new interpretation.

Successful artists with long and impressive careers in dance music, Trilucid & Phil Martyn have seen their collaborative efforts feature on the likes of Perfecto, Black Hole and Markus Schulz's Coldharbour Recordings. Regulars on Particles since 2018 with their "Gone" EP and remix of Andre Sobota's "Unmute", Trilucid & Phil Martyn have seen success on the flagship imprint with the remix of Stas Dive's "Abyssal". A Trilucid solo offering saw "Glint" released in early 2019 with remixes from Subandrio and Cream & Deep Fog, while Phil Martyn returns to aid production on the forthcoming "Astral" EP. Reworking "Serengeti", the Trilucid & Phil Martyn remix is immediately characterised by a thumping beat and hot, simmering dancefloor nature. Making clever use of Pole Folder's original components, vocal effects create a hypnotic texture, while the smooth flowing lines of the original are immaculately juxtaposed against heavier rhythmic aspects. The result is a dynamic and striking new interpretation.

Lighting up the "Serengeti" with sublime new music, Pole Folder is joined by remixes from and Fulltone Trilucid & Phil Martyn on a safari of sonic discovery.

Part of the "Fall Particles 2019", Julian Nates now returns with "Luminism", reprising the original track and adding the delightful, "Renaissance". Remixes come from UK and UAE stars.

From Cordoba, Julian Nates has forged a name for himself from his home in central Argentina. An accomplished pianist and violinist in early years, he reached a professional standard in drums after studying at the acclaimed music conservatory in his hometown. A switch to electronic music quickly saw success with over a century of production credits and releases on Balkan Connection, Soundteller and Nick Warren's The Soundgarden. Adding to the light melodic overtones of "Luminism", partner tack, "Renaissance" is full of the impressive musical sensibilities of the title track as off-beat shakers and intelligent clave percussion pave the way for a syncopated arpeggio to trip delicately across the mid-range. Building with ease, further arpeggiated sequences entwine and evolve as richly textured pads pulsate gently in waves before coming to the fore in a stripped-back breakdown. Hitting its stride, all elements combine once more in a sparkling second half to impressive effect.

A growing force since early production work for Clinique Recordings in late 2016 and early 2017, Imran Khan's career has continued to gather pace at an impressive rate. Through an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and developing his production technique, the UK artist's portfolio has continued to find him a sea of admirers with over 100 credits for the likes of MNL, Astrowave and Superordinate Music. The "Organik" and "Sunsweat" EPs were notable 2019 highlights for Proton Music, while "Arrival" was a Particles highlight in August 2018 including remixes from Kamilo Sanclemente and Dabeat and Hot TuneiK. Reworking the title track, the trademark percussive phrase of "Luminism" opens proceedings alongside an intricate groove carved by Imran Khan. New motifs shine through as Khan's production talent is in full evidence with a plethora of new production material that takes the essence of the original and takes it on a new sonic voyage of discovery. Over its 10-minute duration, layers of sound melt into the complex rhythmic structure to create another high-class sonic interpretation.

A renowned DJ across the Middle East, Ejaz Ahamed has found success with his support slots for Digweed, Cattaneo, Zabiela and a host of others. In tandem a production career has continued to showcase the Dubai resident's skill with a clutch of growing releases for the likes of Stellar Fountain, PHW Elements and Darin Epsilon's Perspectives Digital. A pair of remixes for Jero Nougues and Sam Heyman saw an opening salvo for Particles in mid-2017 and 2018 and it is a pleasure to welcome the Indian born artist back for a third outing. Taking on "Renaissance", the Ejaz Ahamed remix revels in cascading bassline prowess that pays tribute to Nates' original with its intelligent use of central arpeggio that is transformed and developed in innovative new fashion alongside a chorus of new production work. Cast within a strong and dynamic new rhythmic framework, the resultant interpretation is an impressive affair.

Sol Selectas is proud to present the “La Maison” ep from our good friend from Canada, DJ &  producer, Gab Rhome. These 2 original tracks blur the lines between deep, funky, and afro house styles, with crisp percussion, groovy bass lines, exotic strings arrangements, and playful vocals.
La Maison means “home” in French, and with Gab’s extensive travels around the World DJing, he found it “increasingly difficult to call anywhere home”. But on a recent holiday trip to his parents in rural Canada, among the lush woods, he felt back to his roots. The cheerful cries from children in the song “La Maison”, echo that happy sentiment that Gab felt returning to his foundation in the forest.

“Hidden” refers to the song elements contained within the track itself, a proper composition with verse, chorus, and bridge all included. The catchy guitar riff and vocal countdowns are from Gab himself, along side his girlfriend, just having fun in the studio. This demonstrates how both songs have seeds planted in sharing special moments with those closest to you -  friends, family, and lovers.

Whitesquare from Italy, joins Sol Selectas for his stripped back percussive remix of “La Maison”. The distinct Afro groove and signature minimal percussion he’s become known for, drive the track forward, but its the epic breakdown that keeps us marching on the dance trail.

MadMotormiquel from Berlin also premieres here on Sol Selectas, with a psychedelic re-interpretation of “Hidden”. Adding a powerful hypnotic bass, dramatic pads, and chopping up Gab’s guitar riff, he creates a heady late night dance floor trip.

The artwork by Helia Jamali takes us on a dreamscape to the northern green forests, where the Canadian hawk is leading us back to our “Maison”.

Hidden (Original)- Gab Rhome

The latest release on Madloch’s Sound Avenue imprint finds the label showcasing new interpretations of ‘Kafka’ by Ercos Blanka. Originally released in March of this year, it was the lead piece on the third installment of the label’s popular ‘Correlation’ series. Well received by fans and tastemakers alike, its deep, organic musicality resonated throughout the electronic underground, reaching over 1.5 million streams on Spotify in a six-month span. Now looking to refresh the track for the fall season, Sound Avenue invites Arina Mur, LADS and Francisco Aguado to provide their own unique interpretations. 

Making her label debut and providing the first interpretation of ‘Kafka’ is Arina Mur. Since making her production debut just two years ago, the Russian artist has found a home on Anjunadeep, Akbal Music and Seven Villas. Also an accomplished DJ, Arina has had the honour of opening for top international talents such as MANDY, Pablo Bolivar, Gorje Hewek and Izhevski. Now making her much anticipated Sound Avenue debut, she puts her own unique twist on ‘Kafka’. Redolent rhythms, exotic percussion and hazy harmonics set the course for this enchanting journey. Mounds of perfectly contoured bass roll forward with capsizing swing, as emerging atmospheres and clustered chimes smoothly shift energy into a glowing break. Reflective and hopeful, the centrepiece furthers the poignant narrative, eventually resetting the groove for a spirited final movement.

Next up and also making their label debut are LADS. Hailing from Germany and South Africa respectively, the duo has a meticulous discography highlighted by releases on Lost & Found, Magician on Duty, Nie Wieder Schlafen and Rebellion Der Traumer, where their intricate yet dreamy sound has flourished. Now making their first appearance on Sound Avenue, LADS take ‘Kafka’ into groovy territory. Deep yet robust, the piece flows through a storyboard of undulating bass, chunky rhythms and fragmented design, before shifting energy into an otherworldly break. Nostalgic in nature, the centrepiece projects an optimistic radiance, as waves of percussion and emerging rides cue a pulsating finale.

The release concludes with Francisco Aguado making his label debut and providing the third and final interpretation of ‘Kafka’. The Spanish artist has found a home on Apnea Label, Greyscale and Seven Villas, where he has showcased his dubbed-out brand of deep house. Now following the release of his latest Apnea vehicle ‘Coincidences of Life’, Francisco debuts on Sound Avenue with a hypnotic rendition of ‘Kafka’. Beginning with organic beats and dusty percussion, it’s the meditative nature of the groove which becomes instantly compelling. Pulsating and full of great character, it anchors what is a dubby yet musical slice of deep techno. Shifty harmonics marry clustered pianos across a nine-minute storyboard, for what results in a charming late-night journey. A heady interpretation from the Spanish artist, which rounds out a welcome remix edition for Ercos Blanka’s ‘Kafka’.

The sun is out for Bobby Featherdale’s disco take. If LCD Soundsytem and Nile Rodger’s had an acid-fuelled studio session, the result might be glorious indie-dance rhythms found here. The running bass appears so loose you almost need to put it in a strait-jacket. Musca’s vocals are given free reign while Featherdale’s production dances around it with a soulful groove that threatens to never let you go.

SHADY (Pieter De Meester and Maxim Helincks) are one half of the band Stavroz, and 2020 drove them from a frenzied international touring schedule to a period of relative quiet. While other musicians tried to capture the gravity of lockdown, SHADY used their time to cook up joyous prankster music, something refreshingly at odds with the global zeitgeist.

On ‘Your Skin’, the pair channel the wonky surrealism of Connan Mockasin, the understated swagger of Nicolas Jaar’s low end, and the tomfoolery of a Mighty Boosh crimp. The song invokes a carefree future where clubs have reopened and sweaty, raving humans rub bare shoulders on a full-swing dancefloor. ‘I wanna touch your skin’, croon Helincks and De Meester in a cellophane falsetto… well, hopefully soon.

Sydney’s Dreems (aka Angus Gruzman) takes SHADY’s original off-road. The notoriously eclectic co-founder of Multi Culti records delivers a cheeky Balearic take, switching to a major key and adding a lolloping low end while maintaining SHADY’s low-tempo chug. Anyone who appreciates the optimistic psychedelia of Acid Pauli is likely to get drawn into this one.

For his remixes, label boss Uone teams up with his long-time Auckland collaborators Out of Sorts. Between them, they invert SHADY’s colours to produce something deep-hued, with a long bassline that’ll appeal to fans of Silicone Soul and vintage Luke Chable. The vocal remix takes ‘Your Skin’ into late night territory, and the dub remix is a step darker, recalling the Rainbow Serpent Festival dusty dance floor moments.
