DNB SHAKEDOWN 24

"The Church Bell at Dusk" is an ambient electronic piece in which I explore rich textures, harmonic colour and gradual sound transformation. By creating an atmospheric drone, a deep resonant bell sound, a Chinese zither and a ‘whale cry’ sounding warp effect, I was able to create a unique atmosphere of tension and suspense. 

This piece is based in the key of E minor. Because I chose to base this piece around the church bell strike, the piece is set in 4/4 time to reflect the regular beat of a bell striking. The style of the piece could be classified as ‘dark ambient music’. In my view, it would be perfectly apt as a backing track to accompany a scene of suspense in a film or T.V. drama. My inspiration for this piece was from 'Hand Covers Bruise' composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for the film 'The Social Network'(2010). The ambient drone and simple melody caught my attention. Hence, I ventured to explore this in my 'The Church Bell at Dusk'.

"Battle of Jericho: Movement I"

Context:
While writing this piece, I thought it was perfectly fitting to the story of the Battle a Jericho. God instructed Joshua with an unusual strategy for the battle of Jericho. He told Joshua to have his army march around the city once a day for six straight days.  While marching, the soldiers played their trumpets as the priests carried the Ark of the Covenant around the city of Jericho.

What can we learn from the story? 
There's a time to be silent and a time to shout. Knowing the difference may determine whether barriers stand or fall. Doing God's work in God's way will always accomplish God's purpose.

'Momentum' is defined as the strength or force gained by motion or by a series of events. As the main theme unfolds and develops it build in momentum before falling again. 

This was one of my first experiments with writing cinematic music using MIDI. I was an interesting experience and I learned a lot. Even though it's not perfect - I find the flaws make it what it was for me - a learning experience discovering what I could accomplish using my new DAW and sound library - ALBION ONE.
