Biography
STEREOCiTI was first discovered by Mike Huckaby in 2007. The Detroit legend introduced the Japanese producer to the world on his radio show. 
Immediately after the broadcast of the
program, STEREOCiTI released his debut EP "Citifunk EP", then joined a compilation "Up to the Surface" with producers such as Baaz and Scott Ferguson. Both records were released on Deep
Explorer Music, a Spanish label owned by Dubbyman. 
These works led STEREOCiTI to sign to a Berlin based label Mojuba. "Early Light", his first release on Mojuba, came out in 2009.
In 2011 STEREOCiTI released his first full-length album "Kawasaki" on Mojuba. 
It was highly acclaimed by both dance music fans and critics, and is already regarded as a milestone in the history of deep house music.
His sources of influence are not only House and Techno music from Chicago and Detroit, but Jazz, Fusion, Dub, Rare Grooves, Japanese pop music of the 80's and his mother who is a
player/composer of traditional Japanese musical instruments. STEREOCITI himself plays guitar, bass, and percussion, which often featured in his songs.
He had long been a DJ before he became a producer. After starting the career at Maniac Love, a
legendary club in Tokyo, he has rocked countless numbers of audiences. 
Groove, deepness and idea/inspiration are the essences of STEREOCiTI's djing and his tight, stoical style gives him a
strong one-and-only presence in the world of dance music.

彼が27歳になる2012年に、Chez DamierのBalance Recordingsからファーストリリースをドロップ、それからリスナーは彼のプロダクションやDJから多くのベテランとは全く異なった感覚を感じる事になる。DJとして10年以上活動しており、サウンドエンジニアとしてのバックグラウンドも合わせ持つ。また2011にマドリードで開催されたRed Bull Music Academyにポルトガル代表の一人として参加している。Chez Damierは彼のファーストepをリリース後、さらには彼にJorge自身のレーベルであるInner BalanceをBalance Recordings傘下としてはじめるきっかけを与えた。ポルトガルではGroovementのレーベルマネージャーを努める傍ら、レコードショップCarpet & Snares Recordsを運営し、地元のDJやニューカマーたちにとってシーンのハブとして機能している。シーンの成長を活気づけたいという彼の熱意はショップのマンスリーイベントに反映されており、新人達にオーディエンスの前でプレイするチャンスを与えている。

-こちらのミックスはどちらでどのように収録されたのですか？

僕のスタジオで録音したよ。使ったのは2台のテクニクスと2チャンネルのパイオニアのミキサー、それに僕のまわりにあるたくさんのレコードだ。


-コンセプトがあれば教えてください。

いつもPodcastやラジオの依頼があった時は、常にいくつかのシェアしたいレコードからインスピレーションを得るんだ。今回も例外ではなかったよ。基本的にプレイしたい数枚のレコードを軸に他の曲を選んで構成していくんだ。


-最近の活動を教えて下さい。

いくつかのリリースの予定があるよ。しばらく保留になっていたけどKeith WorthyのAesthetic Audio Detroitからepがリリースされるし、僕がマネージャーを努めるGroovementからも2017初頭にリリースが控えている。今はちょうど、来年夏頃にBalance Recordingsからリリースする曲を作り終えようとしている所だよ。それに僕の手がけたChez DamierとAbacusの曲のRemixが収録されているVarious epが来月発売されるよ。

How would you describe your music policy?

Mutual Dreaming has always been about obsessions of mine, the weirder music, and outlier artists. Its been all over the place from PPU boogie parties, DJ Stingray's NYC debut, Dr Rubinstein, etc, always with a similar spirit of playfulness. I'm never wanting anything standard or genre-abiding.  I saw the fliers and artist choices as a bat signal for people open to that.  Besides the guests, one of its goals has been giving local artists a proper stage, proper sound, and seeing that talent really flex & develop.

What makes a great party? 

A great party is a very elusive thing, only possible when all the details come together and form a collective unconscious that's bigger than any one element.  You can just feel it in the air, everything's churning deeper and feels unstoppable, and that's when personal transformation is possible. You can't always predict when it will happen. As an organizer I think you can help get it there by setting some things in motion, but after that it just unfolds on its own.

What does your party stand for, and how do you express that? 

I have a few half-joking mottos. 'Strictly for the freaks' is something my friend Max D said years ago. Coming from a very conformist city, DC, that has meant the music lovers & friends that you really had to work to find. In my dream world it would be full of people in crazy outfits, but to me freak means something more like a believer in underground culture, and that doesn't necessarily look cool.  The other motto is 'DIY the only way to fly.' Meaning: no sponsorship, nobody else producing it, no need for commercial success, all my projects are meant as a transmission from my imagination. This is really important to me.

 What’s the greatest problem facing club culture in your city? 

Dancing is technically illegal except for a few commercial clubs, so the nightlife I've been interested in has mostly been underground  in lofts and random spaces. There's always a risk of getting shut down, losing tons of money, and the safety and exits can be sketchy.  In recent years especially since the Oakland fire, I have been extra cautious and turned to more legal places, but I'm going back to the underground spots again.  Has to be that way if your tying to catch that feeling of a special space for one night only. Another problem is bros and finance people ruining the vibe, groping girls, etc. Occasionally I'll get discouraged, worrying it will never be the same, but you just have to keep pushing further into your zone and outrunning them.

What’s your favorite memory of the night?

After 7 years its difficult to pick a favorite but I guess I can think of a turning point. 2013, before Sustain-Release started, I had stepped back after a few unsuccessful nights and wondered the way forward if I would continue. I found an incredible loft with lots of strange rooms, and organized a party with new label at the time, White Material vs Vereker. The owner of the space was a weirdo, but as the hours got closer, it became apparent that he was never going to turn on the electricity. I googled him and realized he was an actual scam artist. The truck showed up with the soundsystem and it was now or never, so I called my old space 285 Kent which had ended its 4 year run the night before, so it was open and available for one last party. We roll up to find the toilets had exploded, and there's disgusting chunky brown water covering the entire floor.. we're mopping, and frantically setting up a huge parachute installation on the ceiling, and then the fog machine breaks. But after all that chaos, the result was absolutely pulsing with life force energy. It looked and sounded the best it ever had so far, the music felt new, and I glimpsed the power and potential of our scene, and since then the parties seemed more potent, focused and magic.

This is my DJ mix from the Daphni 'JIAOLONG' album release party at the Bussey Building in Peckham, London, UK.

It was recorded live and performed with 3 Pioneer CDJ 2000s playing digital files, an E&S DJR400 mixer and a Boss RE-20 Space Echo pedal.

All 7.5 hours are here - warts and all. Apologies for the occasionally crunchy sound quality and periodic lapses in mixing. It's only split into two parts because it was too long to upload as one file.

It was a fantastic night - thank you to all of you who were there and to Huntleys & Palmers for putting the night on. But as many of you were unable to attend for geographic and other reasons, I wanted to share it with you this way.

Raised in Rio de Janeiro and now based in Brooklyn, Gabriel's diverse background has shaped his unparalleled taste and love for the dance music scene.

Gabriel's early years in Rio were spent immersing himself in the iconic Bunker 94 club, where he raved to the infectious beats of Techno, Electro, and Drum 'n' Bass.

His passion for music knows no bounds, and he effortlessly blends genres like Chicago House, Italo Disco, and Minimal Techno, guided by what speaks to his heart.

The influence of Gabriel's father, an amateur musician, played a significant role in building the foundation of his musical taste. Together, they explored a diverse range of sounds, from classic rock to bossa nova, Devo to Kraftwerk, shaping Gabriel's unique sonic palette.

In 2005, Gabriel embarked on his DJ journey, drawing inspiration from Rio de Janeiro’s local legend, DJ Mauricio Lopes. This experience, combined with his immersion in the vibrant House, Techno, and Minimal scenes of New York City, further fueled Gabriel's passion and refined his craft.
