This solo was part of a concert that presented the results of a 4 hour workshop called Klangbad. 
A Klangbad consist of free chanting, vocal experiments, improvisation and circle singing.
My solo is a wild wordless spread of contemporary vocal techniques including overtone singing. Its about celebrating the richness of the human voice and expresses the joy and fun of free improvisation!

This recording took place in summer 2002 at the St. Petri Dom, Bremen.
I gave 14 concerts. Each of them featured one special vocal technique, such as overtone singing, inhaled singing, breathy singing etc.
I put the recorded  tracks together and produced a surrealistic vocal soundscape, a "Hörstück für Stimme und Kleid".

This is from a 20 year old album called "Gabriele Haslers Personal Notebook". It features Lars Lindvall (trp), Christian Muthspiel (trb) Wollie Kaiser (tenorsax and bcl) Jörn Schipper (drums). Composition and vocals are by me. The recording took place at the legendary Tonstudio Bauer, sound engineer was Carlos Albrecht. I love the way he makes my voice sound!

This is a multitrack improvised piece from the album "G.bete 365" (2007). The album is a musical and lyrical reflection on rituals and prayers. Between deep emotions and abstraction.

This track is also from the album "G.bete 365". The words come from Java and mean something like "take it easy!". I choose them for this multitrack Improvisation because I love the sound of the words.

"Wenn zu perfekt liebe Gott böse!" (Nam June Paik) is one of my favorite sentences.
Thesaurus offered me some nice variations...  Dietmar Bonnen (p) and Roger Hanschel (altosax) build an exciting musical environment, carrying from sentence to sentence.

Another track from the album "Styr" (Foolish Music, 2008). Two voices in two different worlds: Dietmar Bonnen sings bluesy and relaxed (Lyrics by Robert Johnson) and also plays the prepared piano. Gabriele Hasler improvises and whispers enigmatic words of a forgotten language.

Gabriele Hasler studied among others at the Berklee College of Music, Boston, USA. Since the early 80ties she performed with several ensembles and band projects in Europe, South Asia and North Africa. With her singing and her compositions she is considered as one of the most interesting European voices.
She combines elements of free improvisation, jazz, avant-garde and world music creating a very individual and contemporary style. She writes her own poetry and also often refers to modern poets such as Gertrude Stein.  Her singing can be considered as a process of exploring the limits of the human voice.

As a soloist she has been invited to work with several larger ensembles (among others with symphony orchestra). Among others she wrote compositions for large church choir. She can be heard on 25 CD/LPs and leads her own record label Foolish Music.

To teach her own and individual approach of improvised singing, she gives many workshops.
Her main interest is vocal group improvisation including circle singing, free improvisation and elements of performance (“Klangbad”).

With her solo performance “G.bete 365” she was invited to the LEM Festival, Barcelona and to the Festival of the Museum Vostell, Malpartida, Spain.
