All the clever things to say they're just nice sounding lies Things I've heard along the way to make me sound like I've got it figured out I can't fake it just to try and fit in anymore People gather and they stare and say man what are you doing here I say I just like to saying I don't mind whether it's here or there I can't fake it just to try and fit in anymore Don't you think I feel the way you feel and my not a person just like you Seems like empathy's going out of style but I know the times will turn around I can't fake it just to try and fit in anymore

Empty soul

Pilando Castile was flashed and pulled over
to the side over the road in st Paul Minnesota 
He followed the rules and did what cops told him
then philando Castile was unjustly murdered
philando Castile had a babe of just four years
and he and her mother were soon to be married
and he told the officer of his registered weapon
and the cop drew quick and put 7 bullets in him

what can we do right
in this world thats straight male and white
even if we do everything right
Might still end up like philando

Philandos daughter was in the back seat when they shot him
And after he was dead the other officer came and got her
And he put her in the back seat and put the mother and handcuffs
While one of the officers radiod in for backup
Philando Castile was bleeding and dying
And in the back seat of a squad car his family was crying
But cops arriving on the scene rushed to comfort the officer
And ignored the child and the mother and didn’t take the handcuffs off of her
They ignored the car and the bleeding man in it
And didnt check philandos pulse for several minutes  what can we do right
in this world thats straight male and white
even if we do everything right
Might still end up like philando

Philando at St. Paul, MN

Well she was working in Chicago when Fred Hampton died
He was assassinated  by the sheriffs department and the FBI
she was working on his rainbow coalition when they Took his life back in 1969

She had seen the march from Selma  on the tv screen
And empathized very heavily with dr kings dream
The United States felt like it was bursting at the seams
Back in 1963

The walls of her narrow world came crumbling down
she heard the riots and the protests going on downtown
Picket sign carrying people gathered all around
The whole world is watching now

It was abundantly clear that she had to change 
It's a Strange kind  of people who say things ain't strange 
The whole world run wild by the morally deranged
and  who wants it that way?

They say she's crazy but that seems absurd
Can't be like all the people who consider themselves pure
Or like those white ladies acting all demure
When they hear that people suffer

She took to the streets in her walking shoes
Left her bag behind with the suburb blues
Everybody was talking when they heard the news
They're probably still talking too

Fundamentals Of Flight

Gabriel Mayers got his start playing in the subways of New York City. In 2012 he recorded several videos for Brett Paine Murphy's Youtube video series Buskrs, in which he was pictured playing underground. In 2014 he was asked to fly to Hollywood by Grammy Award Nominated Record Producer Linda Perry, to star in a reality series about songwriters on VH1 called Make or Break: The Linda Perry Project. In 2016 he was featured in Oscar Nominee Josh Fox’s documentary, How to let go of the world (and love all the things climate can’t change), soon after traveling the country, playing shows alongside the films premiere. That same year Gabriel’s original song, Sixty Charisma Scented Blackbirds’would be placed on the 2017 Academy Awards shortlist for Best Original Song.
