German duo Obscure Shape & SHDW drop three robust Techno tracks in their first full release on Rekids this May.

One of the most exciting acts in Techno today, Obscure Shape & SHDW are the founders of From Another Mind - the label and party series making waves in South-Germany. Aside from Rekids, where they remixed Radio Slave’s ‘Vision’ last year, the pair’s abilities in the studio have seen them invited by Slam for two separate remixes of Monoloc and Envoy on Soma, with more projects to be announced.

‘Himmel Und Erde’ is a cavernous cut boasting colossal kicks and skipping percussion before a tantalising melody comes into play. ‘Am Ende Der Welt’ is more deep and atmospheric in comparison, blending dusky percussion with echoing synths until ‘Gefallene Engel’ demonstrates syncopated drums and an otherworldly hook that conjure up a mesmerising aesthetic to conclude the release.

Arriving as the third outing of Len Faki’s recently established non-profit platform LF RMX, these previously exclusive edits take on a raging classic by courtesy of Frankie Bones, godfather of the North-American rave scene.

The new Hardspace Mix bolsters up the characteristic vocal and synths for even more frantic effect but trades in the percussion for Faki’s signature assault of claps and hats. These also dominate the stripped-back Hardspace Tool, which carefully builds momentum only around the sirens and some seriously sizzling low-end rumble. Both of Faki’s personal mixes capture the orignal’s raw energy, yet manage to appear in both sleek but powerful presence.

As with all releases of LF RMX, the proceeds of this record will be donated to the Berlin charity project Straßenkinder e.V. to be used in actions against child poverty.

It doesn’t get much bigger than this: Adam Beyer links up with Green Velvet and Drumcode’s outstanding rising star Layton Giordani for a debut collaboration.

Some musical partnerships feel fated. Both fans of one another’s work, for years Adam Beyer and Green Velvet had discussed writing music together. In turn, Beyer’s protégé Layton Giordani had admired the Chicagoan’s work for as long as he could remember. When the 25-year-old found himself playing alongside the green mohawked legend at Belfast’s Shine, the spark and subsequent friendship was immediate. With the links now set in place, it was only a matter of time before the trio’s creative chemistry would manifest musically.

‘Space Date’ was conceived organically and birthed quickly. Propelled by Green Velvet’s trademark vocal hypnotism, the triumvirate combine to craft a pumping intergalactic slice of techno laced in melody that’s highlighted sets by Beyer at Awakenings, Ushuaia and also EDC Vegas when Green Velvet dropped it to a raucous response. The track is complimented by ‘Rome Future’, the product of a year-long series of productions between Beyer and Giordani. Deftly combining crisp drum work, catchy vocal effects and a powerful bassline melody that gives the track an almighty kick, it will be familiar to many who’ve followed their sets over recent months.

Kneaded Pains Boss men Dense & Pika join up with label regulars Melodys Enemy for an epic collaboration, 'From Nothing' is pure main room action with a thunderous kick drum and perfectly honed sonic percussion underpinning the slightly sinister sounding male vocal. Already being hammered by Carl Cox and Adam Beyer this is sure to be one of the years biggest underground hits. Perc takes it into a harder, more streamlined territory on his remix.

Multifaceted artist Patrick Mason and Rekids boss Matt Edwards return with their next release as SRVD, entitled ‘Black On Black’. Since teaming up two years ago, Matt Edwards (Radio Slave) and Patrick Mason have continued to blur the lines between pounding techno and live avant-garde performance under their SRVD alias. Following performances in Barcelona, Melbourne, Berlin London and Tokyo, and with support from the likes of Sven Väth, Rodhad, Chris Liebing, Laurent Garnier and many more. The formidable duo now return to their home imprint, Rekids, with two tracks both recorded in Bordeaux in 2019, using only analogue gear, before being arranged and mixed in Berlin. 

‘Black On Black’ opens with thundering percussion, rising synths, rattling cymbals and alluring vocals from Patrick which elevates the energy and leads you into delightful darkness. On the flip, ‘USB’ pulses with a Roland SH 101 bassline and deep kicks while Patrick’s haunting vocal-work causes an unsettling rhythm that propels you into a warehouse space.
