They will be away from family and loved ones, leaving behind the life they had from childhood. The ceremony is a test through physical pain (circumcision), dietary intake (fasting), Sexual abstinence or restraint, not having materialistic possessions, storytelling, and most fo all how to handle one's self and play a role in the community etc.
