Hon Amul Nyassi the Chairperson of the National Assembly's South Bank team gave an update on their tour of the country where they held public hearings at Jarra Soma, Jangjangburreh and Basse Koba Kunda.

The hearings focused on the Elections Bill 2021. In this exclusive interview, Hon Nyassi speaks to Flex Dan about the Gambian Diaspora voting in the next Presidential Elections.

Naufrage de migrants en Mauritanie: la Gambie a rapatrié hier ses
ressortissants rescapés de l’accident

En partenariat avec l'OIM, la Gambie a procédé au rapatriement de ses
ressortissants rescapés du naufrage au large de la Mauritanie,
mercredi dernier. Les migrants dont la pirogue a été interceptée par
les garde-côtes mauritaniens, vendredi dernier font également partie
du lot de rapatriés.  Au total, ce sont 256 personnes réparties en 5
bus qui sont rentrées au bercail.  La plupart sont originaires de
Barra, à 12 Km de la capitale, située sur l’embouchure nord du fleuve
Gambie, en face de Banjul.

À Banjul, des quartiers qui ont les pieds dans l’eau toute l’année

Habités dans les années 80, plusieurs quartiers de la banlieue de
Banjul situés sur une zone marécageuse, se retrouvent inondés toute la
saison des pluies. Vivre permanemment avec les eaux est le calvaire
que vivent les habitants de Tallinding, Ebo Town etc. Des bidonvilles
populeux et insalubres à perte de vue abandonnés par les pouvoirs
publics. En ce période, les habitants sont littéralement coupés du
monde: routes impraticables, maisons submergées. Ils vivent
un calvaire inouï.

Arrêt momentané du ferry reliant Banjul et Barra: les pirogues, la seule
alternative qui s’offre aux passagers

Depuis ce mercredi, le transport fluvial par ferry reliant Banjul et
Barra dans la capitale gambienne est à l’arrêt, pour un mois, pour
travaux. Les voyageurs, particulièrement les automobilistes sont priés
de contourner par le pont "Sénégambie" de Farafegny, à quelque
centaines de kilomètres de Banjul. Une décision lourde de conséquences
pour les usagers de cette voie stratégique et empruntée par des
milliers de personnes au quotidien. La seule alternative qui s’offre
aux passagers ce sont les pirogues pour enjamber le fleuve. Mais Une
période synonyme de bonnes affaires pour les travailleurs qui s’y
activent.

Amadou Barry s’est rendu sur le quai de Banjul, un passage obligé pour
les usagers désormais.
