Shaded is the new solo project of Skyler Taugher, one of the members of SHDWPLAY, whose releases to date have all been via Dubfire's SCI+TEC label, which speaks to his talent for stripped-down, big room techno. This four track EP bridges the gap between pumping, classic M_nus-style minimal techno and whatever it's more fun and modern counterpart is. 

Opener Sheshe has been a staple in label-boss Tiga's sets of late, a slick, energetic and eminently playable club record. Things get darker for Side Sippin and Jane Smith Goes To DC10 before closer Single Freax funs things up again in the closer slot with what sounds like a police siren on drugs under a vocal going “freak-freak-freak,” classic elements for effective party tools…

A ‘pan-pot’ is a simple, functional dial that governs the left and right axis of the stereo field, useful but unremarkable; mobilee’s Pan-Pot is an entirely different proposition, a duo whose mastery of audio principles allows them to turn conventions on their heads, casting functionality aside as they plumb the deep, uncharted depths of pitch-black techno.

Since their inception in 2005, Pan-Pot have become a dominant presence in modern techno, an ascent mirrored in the rise of their home label mobilee records to the top tier of electronic music. Tagging themselves as “the dark side of the force,” Pan-Pot have melted minds, warped perceptions and reinvigorated the dancefloor with their heady, unorthodox sound; within their work, subtle pitch manipulations square off with wall-of-sound distortion, the dark stomp of 4/4 is tamed by intricate sound design, and minimalistic frameworks duel with throbbing bass lines, epic builds, and murky, off-kilter melodies.

Tassilo Ippenberger and Thomas Benedix met at Berlin’s SAE, and their studies in the production and manipulation of sound aided them in identifying Pan-Pot’s overarching sound aesthetic. The duo booked Anja Schneider for an ill-fated party in 2005, but the unfortunate circumstances helped forge a fortuitous connection with Schneider and her then-fledgling mobilee imprint. Within weeks, mobilee’s second ever release was Pan-Pot’s official debut, „Copy and Paste“. The steady stream of original tracks and remixes that followed on mobilee and Einmaleins, charted the duo’s unwavering commitment to precise, undulating and kinetic grooves.

The defining moment of Pan-Pot’s career came in 2007 with the release of their debut artist album, Pan-O-Rama. The aptly named long-player offered a 360-degree view of techno at its most twisted, balancing somber atmospherics with a lightness of touch, and spawning the overground hit “Charly”. More recently “Confronted” and “Captain My Captain” have demonstrated their classic, strong and timely production style, presenting them as the most consistent purveyors of techno around.

Pan-Pot are ceaselessly working and endlessly inventive. When not in the studio writing original material or remixing tracks by a myriad of artists, they can be found on the road, touring. Their DJ sets reveal a keen understanding of the dancefloor’s needs, and they are unconstrained by boundaries, traversing techno, house and everything in between.

Pan-Pot may have taken their name from an unexceptional element of studio equipment, but as with their music, they have rewritten notions of form and function through their own idiosyncratic language; once you’ve experienced Pan-Pot’s colossal, haunting soundscapes you will never forget them. Their vision, passion, and love of music continues to drive Pan-Pot — and the extended mobilee team —in all that they continue to do, and all that will come.

'Backflash' – as the title of Kellerkind's new EP on Stil vor Talent rightly suggests – is a full-blown blast from the past that utilises 80s aesthetics in order to craft a wonderfully contemporary EP much in vain of the en vogue sound of 2011: slow, forceful goovers with basslines so big, they might just crush you. Nothing less was to be expected of the charismatic Swiss producer Marco Biagini who has already proven his wide-ranging understanding of house music with tracks like 'Länzer is a Dänzer' or 'Groovebox'. 
On the A-side, the title track works around a delicately crafted, vintage Miami synth lead: while it naturally provides 'Backflash' with a nostalgic touch, its mellow qualities are lifted by a dangerously obese bassline and devilishly catchy hook. Add Kellerkind's impressive ear for groove and vocal sampling, and you're on to an absolute winner. Moving on, Niko Schwind's remix of 'Backflash' subtly shifts the original’s elements around while extending on its vocal sample – a soulful voice urges the listener to 'get it right'. When the break introduces Schwind's trademark piano keys and shuffling rhythmic structures, it's clear that the SVT stalwart is once again on target here. 
Kellerkind continues to explore the vintage theme on the B-side with 'Disco Light', whose laser synths, mesmerising bleeps and chugging bass might just catapult you back to Paradise Garage in '78, were it not for the track's classicist house percussion. Finally, 'Down To' brings the fun back to the dancefloor as Kellerkind's own deep vocal hums serve to replace a traditional bassline. Underlined by yet another beguiling synth motif, ‘Down To’ concludes this stunningly retro-futuristic EP, which is both, sonically coherent and viciously enjoyable. A brilliant start to 2012!

Silicone Soul's Darkroom Dubs, known for its unfaltering output of quality house, returns with their Limited Edition Vinyl series with an EP from Hamburg and Berlin based Soukie and Windish. The 'Flatmate Ghost' EP takes the classic tech house aesthetic on a laid back, rolling journey, while two distinctly dissimilar remixes open your eyes and ears further.

Title track 'Flatmate Ghost' quickly lures you into a subtly relaxing beat but as soon as you're locked, dissonant synth bursts and ominous, pitched down vocal meanderings immediately disrupt the dance. While Kellerkind's take on the original brings forth a shoulder swinging groove, soothing piano riffs and clever silences. Andres Zacco's version moves with relentless percussion, delving into the hollow depths of dark bass.

'Quality Time' offers the more sensual side of Soukie & Windish's production. Here, otherworldly harmony prevails while the characteristic jarring stabs take a backseat. Soukie & Windish manage to visit opposite ends of the spectrum without losing the unique creative resonance the pair found in this collaboration.

With the 10th Anniversary of the label fast approaching and a monumental raft of forthcoming releases ahead, this is a mouthwatering taste of what's to come from Darkroom Dubs in 2013.

After a lifetime of making music, Jon Gaiser is always leading from the front of his own world. With his signature sound, he has created a shift in the direction of underground electronic music, starting a movement of atmospheric bass-line driven techno that is entirely unique and unmistakable. It has come almost exclusively on Richie Hawtin’s Minus, and with that label he has been an influential part of the modern day techno landscape, both on stage and in the studio. From pioneering Minus projects like Contakt and CNTRL, to being a key resident of ENTER via his always inventive live sets and mind bending visual accompaniments, Gaiser has always harnessed the power of electronic music and nurtured its most evocative and cinematic possibilities. 
Coming up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Gaiser’s musical life ranged from the formal, where he studied percussion with the symphony, to the informal, where he played drums in punk rock bands. Later experiencing the golden years of Detroit, it was the infinite possibilities and futuristic darkness of techno that really captured him, and since his early teens he has been on an endless mission to create sounds that have never been heard before. 
He has accomplished this on many occasions now, thanks to his exquisite sense of sound design. Pair that with his ability to evoke otherworldly feelings and knit drums together into the most compelling grooves, and you have something entirely immersive. Someone who is inspired by the odd and peculiar sound tools, from the latest digital technology to extremely rare analog pieces, what matters most to Gaiser is the end result. Across countless releases and nonstop touring around the world, he has proven that time and time again.
Further proof of his artistry comes on his four studio albums. From the abstract minimal of “Blank Fade” (2008) to the spaced out and industrial ambiance under the name VOID “No Sudden Movements” (2011) to the slick- and sci-fi percussions of “False Light“ (2014), Gaiser has very much explored techno’s outer edges in his own cerebral ways. 
2017 will see the light of Gaiser’s next studio album. “III” is an album of evocative and fluid techno that paints colourful pictures in your mind, while your pants are dancing on their own. Each track lives in its own unique world, and together create a dynamic storyline from start to finish. From dark grooves to choppy house, warm atmospheres to curious sci-fi landscapes, it is another complete experience and one that proves Gaiser is unafraid of experimentation, of pushing boundaries and searching out new paths.
