With the latest release on Thule Records the audience is reacquainted with Waage, an Icelandic producer who is already became a force to reckon with within the dub techno community. Along him is a new and fresh tallend name: Quantal – a name to be remember in the near future.
The tracks, comfortably named WM1 to WM4, are repetitive and groovy – a mantra for the braindancers and useful tool for the late-night DJs. WM1 challenges the listeners with its high pitch perc, yet manages to maintain an interesting groove throughout. WM2 is an wide and airy dub techno extravaganza. It slowly drags the listener in like a fisherman with a 10 pound trout. Reels you in slowly and efficiently – and before you know it, you’re being held tightly in the bosom of Waage and Quantal.
The flipside begins with WM3 – steady dub techno beat with atmospheric pads. The chords slowly crawl in, and layers gradually appear from the deep. Finally WM4 brings it home with a heavy-hitting kick, enigmatic chord structures and synchronized breath of an unfamiliar humanoid. Overall, the release is dark and meditative. It works for both the dancefloor and the mind.

Hailing from Thessaloniki, Greece, Alpha Sect is a project by George McCall, which is focused on breaking electro patterns and pumping body music with serious punk influences. We witnessed a killer live performance at Intergalactic FM festival this year which left us speechless. He started his music career as a guitarist in the post-metal band Sleepstream with 2 albums on their track record and he is an active musician with participations in physical theatre performances with his side-project. He's released on a long list of labels such as OSM Tapes, Soil, MSQ, Pildoras Tapes and others. This fall, his second vinyl EP will be released on Violena Viola with remixes from The Hacker and Mick Willis & Blackmoon77. He provides a pumping selection balancing the outer edges of EBM and electro. Lock in!

We're incredibly pleased to welcome Dissemblance to the GF series. She is a very talented and poetic artist that the entire GF team have been following for a while and had the pleasure of meeting in person at Intergalactic FM fest this year. You can check her lauded album “Centauresse” on the mighty L.I.E.S. records, following up her 2019 debut album "Over The Sand" for Mannequin Records. Her productions bring a variety of sounds and invite us to explore the full range of her musical dynamics, leading the listener into her universe where the border between dreams and reality blurs into one, with no tangible beginning or end. For the series, she has crafted a special session where she gives us a unique and magical mix out of her studio in Paris, incorporating exclusive vocals and Rhodes improvisations over 80 beautiful minutes of thoughtful and sensory music. She plays tracks from the 80s: Schleimer K, DZ Lectric & Anthon Shield, taking a funky turn with Girl Unit, to arrive to some dirty acid music by Beverly Hills 808303, ending with a solo rough Rhodes impro through the Moog Cluster Flux pedal. Aside from his many killer releases on the likes of Veyl, Pinkman Body Musick and many others, he is also the co-founder of well known labels such as BAKK, RUBBER, and the PLAFOND series. Although he is well known for his electro and EBM compositions, his talent and acumen know no bounds with more recent releases colouring outside of these lines. We continue the GF series this week with one of the pillars of the Dutch electro scene, none other than DJ Overdose. Hailing from The Hague and based in Rotterdam, his story starts in the eighties. His vision was to create a vibe “where the subs are devastating and the beats are raw". He underpins his work with booming Miami bass and draws on his love for 80s hip-hop to conjure up his signature style. He's etched his mark on deeply loved and respected labels such as L.I.E.S., Creme Organization, Bordello A Parigi, Pinkman, Viewlexx, Murder Capital, his own RotterHague, and many others. Famously dexterous in the booth, DJ Overdose has well-honed skills that make him able to tear up a larger stage or connect with a more intimate crowd. Her show features artists such as Pi Electronics resident Zorz, LVRIN, and others. When she's not playing Athens staples like Astron Bar, which sadly closed, she has been making the rounds at festivals like Healthy Summer Fest and others. Back with our occasional Mix series and this time we feature the excellent sister duo based in New York the Analog Soul , whom we had the pleasure of sharing the decks with back in December 2016 when we all played for Discwoman .
Born in the SF Bay area to a writer mother and sculptor father, their childhood was marked by an avid appreciation and promotion of the arts and culture. At a young age Jacquelyn would soon discover her talent as a dancer while Kat pursued the fine arts through painting and drawing. Music however, would prove to be their destined paths. As 80's kids, part of the first generation of MTV, the sister's found themselves glued to the tube, mesmerized by the sounds of new wave and post punk, early hip hop, classic soul/r&b and pop, and developed a keen interest in jazz, fostered by their father's love of legends such as Chick Corea, Thelonius Monk, Dave Brubeck and Miles Davis, to name a few, while artists like Herbie Hancock, Paul Hardcastle and Kraftwerk would later influence their introduction to electronic music. Fast forward to the late 90s. Parties at SF’s Sound Factory, 1015, the EndUp and introduced the duo to nightlife, electronic music and DJ culture.
An acceptance to the famed Alvin Ailey School in 2001 would see Jacquelyn off to New York. After shopping weekly at the legendary DanceTracks record store, she landed a job there, eventually becoming shop manager and music buyer. DatKat moved to NYC a year later and began quietly honing her skills. In 2004 the ladies secured a weekly radio spot on the famed eastvillageradio.com and the Analog Soul show was born. The long- running show aired every Monday night from 10pm-12amand explored what they deemed "the deeper, darker side of techno and house"--but it also showcased the full spectrum of electronic music, from minimal, acid, Detroit techno, electro, dub, dubstep, and d&b to trip hop and other forms, with special guests ranging from Function to Simbad, Roland Appel, Slam Mode, and Dj Qu. While the overall sound was largely dance-based, the show was aimed at promoting quality underground music and artists, and to expose some otherwise “genre-biased” listeners to a wider range of electronica. Although it ended in 2009, the twins would continue to play regularly at various venues in the city, such as APT, Love, and Stay.
DatKat played Montreal’s Academy Club and more international gigs would soon follow, with headlining stints in Kiev, Ukraine at Xlib Club and Sky Art Cafe and Moscow’s legendary Propaganda Club for Nina Kraviz's “Voices” party alongside resident Vakula. In early 2011, Kat formed a collective called RADIO with close friend Lenny Posso (label boss of Chronicles and Thema Records) and A.Arias, a record collector and NYC promoter (Strobelight Network), and began throwing warehouse parties tailored to bringing the real underground back to NYC, booking the likes of Terrence Dixon, Oliver Ho, Christian Rau, Small People, and Trus'me among others.
As Analog Soul, they play regularly as residents of Brooklyn's Bossa Nova Civic Club as well as Lebain, Output, Goodroom and many of the top underground events in Brooklyn. They played the inaugural edition of Sustain Release (2014), Resident Advisors in residence series with Mood 2 Swing in 2016, Mysteryland 2016 with Art Department, Omar S and Derrick Carter, and a New York edition of Boiler Room with Anthony Parasole, A.Arias and Volvox, to name a few. Through their partnership with Baltimore veteran Donny Burlin, they've promoted and curated many events under Space is the Place, a mythical, legendary DIY artist wharehouse, which has hosted the likes of Mike Huckaby, Theo Parrish, DJ
Bone, DJ Spinna, Chez Damier, Kai Alce, Mood 2 Swing, Stingray, Sublimate, Mutual Dreaming and many more.

One keeper of the Dub-Techno Grail is the Dane Kenneth Christiansen. With his label Echocord he has been pushing the boundaries of the genre since 2002. For Carhartt Radio he mixed us a show with brand-new Echocord tracks that move you with a warm deep bass pressure produced by such artists as Luke Hess, Function, Mikkel Metal or Quantec.
