Hey,

I've been growing more and more horrified by the day at the abhorrent destruction, loss of life & deteriorating conditions in Ukraine. It's beyond comprehension, beyond any reason. I fully condemn the actions of the megalomaniac, tyrannical dictator Putin, his regime, those that do his bidding and the wholly unnecessary wrecking of a country and it's people.

I was thinking of a way I could personally help raise cash for the dire humanitarian conditions in Ukraine. Late last summer I was lucky enough to visit both Kyiv and Lviv, spending a little time in each and discovered what an amazing country and beautiful people it has.

I played a show in Kyiv and thought It could be a good idea to make that live set exclusively available to download for a small donation of €5 or more. This donation will go towards one of the many humanitarian causes that are doing all they can to alleviate the horrors met upon the people of Ukraine.

I loved playing for the crowd at Brave Factory Festival, particularly because it was the first show I had played since the start of the pandemic so it contains a large amount of unheard and fresh material. The live set itself is longer than usual at 105 mins. It will not be made available anywhere else

I appreciate that this is one small gesture but no matter how small, it is something I can do right now which I hope will make at least a little contribution in some way.

I've not had a chance to decide what organisation could make the best use of money raised but i will get back to you on that, rest assured any and all cash will go to a good cause or causes.

"Pacifying The Population" thrusts us into a world where the dominator culture acts like a ruthless drug cartel, us it's compliant consumers. The highly-charged ten tracker LP evokes a narcotic frenzy like atmosphere that surges into the consciousness and pulses through the body like a craved hit. Once again Kastner propels us through a unique musical landscape at the very edge of the sonic territories.

The dominator culture enforces what is moral, ethical, worthy or valid, selling lifestyles, enforcing rituals, “pushing” values, incentivizing the pathological, imposing our needs and beliefs. Increasingly displaying hallmarks of a cruel drug cartel /drug addict, dependency dynamic. The population hooked and enslaved to it's destructive needs.

Seduced, hooked, strung-out on the promise of instant gratification, short-term satisfaction, shiny gadget infatuation, pre-packaged trash values, the cultish, totem imagery of a moribund, redundant culture. An accurate sense of the lived experience obscured by a junkie haze of stupefied confusion. Addicted and hooked, it holds us hostage, keep us compliant, increasingly we are unable to locate ourselves in the maelstrom of noise.

Attempting to operate outside that paradigm rendered almost impossible with countless cultural, social and practical obstacles to overcome. Not "playing the game" is seen & treated as subversive, anti-social, madness.

Opening the album “Sanctioned Sedatives” literally kicks the door down with a massive base line that cuts through disorienting distortions. “Restoring The Connection” sounds like the way out of a tunnelling drug habit, a subdued claustrophobic feel in the beginning drive the track to a mind altering, rising wall of pads.

On side B calmer moods create the appropriate environment for the hazy ambience and the suffused positive feel of B2, which, as the title may suggest, sounds like an invitation to get out of the loop, in order to “Unfuk Your Mind”. The title track “Pacifying The Population” begins side C, grand in scope, pounding drum workouts, a sinister spoken narrative, symphonic strings, mind-mangling resonant acid make this an epic trip.

The closing track “Apocalyptic Signs (Eulogy)” is deeply layered, orchestral. Ethereal synth melodies and heavily warped voices from far out territories induce a deep reflection on the whole album, despite the title it sounds like an unexpected ode to life or maybe as the relief from all human pains.

Pacifying The Population evokes an oppressive feel, a sense of constant tension, modern living. The dense atmospheres, the abrasive and repetitive grooves, Consuming and devastating as a drug habit, the elements that perfectly capture the essence of the whole album. Despite that, it still sounds like a way out from all that is possible, a way to restore the connection within ourselves and between each other.

A therapeutic purge.

Naix is the new brainchild of renowned producer Mark Kastner better known as Galaxian, adding another aspect to Kastners ground-breaking work as Galaxian & Kas. Forging it's own identity & unique sound, it's antecedent heritage can be found most closely in the luminaire artists of Warp & Rephlex labels like AFX, Squarepusher, Caustic Window, Mike Dred, Clark, µ-Ziq converging with strong techno aspects reminiscent of Bjarki, Surgeon, Perc.

The debut LP unfolds over 8 tracks of spellbinding flair. A poignant ode to what was, paths chosen, others not taken "Words & song titles derived from a final love letter, never sent" as the album artwork tells us.

It's an intricate mosaic of barking, overdriven drum work that unites with shimmering orchestral backdrops, punctuated by frazzled circuits. Incessant, primal, smash-face kick drum patterns submit to vast ensemble string like sections. Others are intimate, delicately fragile, beatless, free-floating songs. All prodded & probed.

Nice to see the crowd into it and meet some cool bods.

It passed without any fanfare or much notice but my performance at Ohm was perhaps the biggest changes I have made to my live work in a long time.

I decided to introduce entirely all new tracks for the whole set. All of it created this year so practically none of it had even been heard by anyone but myself.  They represent a significant shift in the sonic palate, production design,  fidelity and I think another step forward into fresh possibilities.

It was really a big deal for me to start afresh with all this fizzing new material especially since I've keeping my head down and working hard in the lab to get to that point. 

I feel like I'm reaching new levels of sonic clarity with a creative impetuous that's been non-stop for months.
It comes after a period where I wasn't fully satisfied with what I was producing, in fact, I mothballed dozens of tracks because I felt I could do better. 

I have a lot of conflicting ideas and thoughts these days.  I've consistently mulled over the efficacy of continuing making music at this level or at all, particularly with trying to keep apace in a scene that's seemingly relegated real creativity to that of a scabby stray dog.

But, doing it, still...

Happy to keep my bar high, move it always tantalising out of reach, always building, learning, evolving.

Every dog has it's day.

Glasgow based producer, Galaxian, is set to drop the 11th release of Helena Hauff’s Return to Disorder imprint. “Paradise Engineering” is an ambitiously psychedelic piece of machine mastery that will be right at home on Hauff’s label, with which she set out to bring “punk rock and techno together” in 2015. The label’s name refers to the reactionary post-WW1 art movement, Return to Order, which called for a rejection of the avant-garde in favor of conservatism and classicism. Return to Disorder has embraced experimentation and genre bending with releases from the likes of Children of Leir, Morah and Umwelt. Galaxian’s proximity to the sharp edge of quantum chaos and belief in the anarchism of nature make him a fitting addition to the Hamburg based label.

“Paradise Engineering”, is a lot to unpack. Within its four tracks, Galaxian lays out an intricate web of self, spiritual and socio-technic exploration and critique. Producing the cover art alone took him on a 12 month journey, while meditating on questions of inner-alchemy, freedom and transcendence. The music covers extensive sonic topography with each of the four distinct tracks building a critical tension while creating counterpoint for one another. Violently intricate drum machine work stakes out the boundaries of “Paradise Engineering’s” autonomous zone, where Galaxian lays out a dense thesis on the harrowed human condition. The tracks leave the listener much to ponder, especially with lines like, “You have been deprived of knowledge by frequency control” and “All possibilities exist”. Synth and bass lines emerge oscillating around each other from deep space on the EP’s second A-side, “Mutual Arising”, clean and crisp supporting elements to stratospheric strings. It gets significantly more aggressive on the B-side with “Life Force” drilling through neck-snapping electro drums with acid patterns, whose methodic dynamism and complexity begins to sound like inter-galactic alien transmissions when blown through a dizzying effect chain. Comfortably between literal and abstract, complex and elegant, “Paradise Engineering” is a deep and rewarding listen.
